Red face What did you do fro Memorial Day?

I usualy go the the cemetry and sit for an hour or so and thank all of them for my freedom.
My Grandson (7 years old)asked why I did that and I told him. He looked puzzled and I asked what was the problem. 'But GrandMaMa don't you always say the funerals are for the living not the dead. Why can't we help the living.' So, That is what the family did this weekend. We have started a new tradition 'Helping the Living'

My girls brought over their sewing machines. IWe all brought our RED, WHITE, and BLUE fabric. We taught the men how to do the cutting for the fabric. We did a production line sewing. WE MAKE 150 blocks for the Quilts of Valor. Even the men enjoyed signing their names as they had helped.
Happy Memorial Day

Out of the mouth of babes comes wisdom. Don't remember who said that but it really applies in this case. What a wonderful tradition to start and made this weekend memorable.

On Sunday at church, the history of Memorial Day was reveiwed. I didn't know it was from the Civil War. We remembered our thankfulness for freedom from slavery and unity of the United States. And since then for all those who've died defending the United States as a nation.

It is especially good to apply that thankfulness to the present and to the future.

I think we under-estimate the impact of our words...that your grandson would remember that funerals are for the living shows that he really listens to what you say, and believes your words. What a compliment to you as his grandma. I love how you incorporated everyone working together to make quilt blocks! Such a good story. Kathy
