Me too... the small end is just right for the iron and leaves me more wide space for ironing...

I put the pointed end on my left side and iron on the wide part too. I set my iron on a potholder on the countertop I have in my sewing room. I try to face the iron so a cat can't get to it. I always turn it off, unless I have to leave the room for a split second. I'm glad you thought of doing this.
