I am thinking about buying me a machine quilting frame. I want to be able to machine quilt any size quilt that I want on it. I have decided on the long-arm machine I want to buy but not the quilting frame. Do any of you use one that you like and would recommend? Do any of you own a JUNKI long-arm machine?

If you mean JUKI machine, I have one. The throat is only 9", but I have quilted a king sized quilt with it. It's been a great machine for me As to the frame, I have mine on a Hinterberg Stretch frame. I love that as well. It is very sturdy and I don't get any vibration. I can easily take it down when I need to [although I leave it up most of the time]

I have the Bernina quilt frame and I have quilted 3 bed size quilts on it with a standard size machine. A long arm would be much easier and require less passes to quilt. My frame takes a king size quilt but I haven't done one on it yet.

I have an HQ Avante 18 (means the throat is 18") with a 12 foot frame. The frames for those are made especially and only for the HQs. I have quilted a number of king size quilts. As others said --- the larger the throat the less "passes" you have to make. Rolling it every time you do 5" gets very tiring. If you have the funds and the room, go for the larger throat space and the longer frame. Although I have a 12 foot frame and have done King size quilts, it would have been easier to have another foot of space on each side of the quilt --- it helps when loading the bobbins or rethreading.

I have the Hinterberg frame and like it very much. I have 10' rails, wish I could go to 12', but don't have the room.

I’ve been using the Handi Quilter adjustable/portable frame. I made a 12’ table for it, adapted all the adjustable bars with conduit and permanently mounted the frame to its new table. It was a bit of work, but I’ve been very happy with it.

Sandy, do you have the original or the stretch? Is it easy to roll the quilt? Thanks for your input! :-)

Yarn or Fabric

I have a Super Quilter ProFlex frame... and a Bailey - both are sitting unused. I need to remedy that and start working on it again...
But anyhoooo... About the Juki... you will need to turn your quilt to be able to quilt a really big quilt. I opted to go with the Bailey - it's not a whole lot more than a Juki and it's a very basic workhorse but it has a much longer throat. You might want to consider something like that - and the Bailey guy has a deal with a frame so you can get a little discount there I'm sure
I'm sure that most places that sell the frame machines have a combo for getting the frame as well.

I have the Imperial frame and the rods are big around and not sturdy. So I dont think it will hold up well.
Right now all I have on it is a Baby Lock Jane with a 9 in throat and that is not working out well at all. So hard to work with just a 4 to 5 in area for quilting. Just dont have the money for a long arm machine.
