Watson, congratulations, I've been wanting one of those, but I think Janome doesn't make one that will fit the PQ1500s, so I'm switching back and forth between the westalee for ruler work or my hopping foot for regular FMQ--which means speeding up for that smooth feeling when doing anything with lots of curves..

I just got the Sharon Schamber FMQ foot. Is that the one you're referring to? Ordered it online from Purple Daisy Quilting. It floats, does not hop, and is adjustable. Fits most high shank machines. You can check with them before ordering to make sure it fits your machine. Tried it out a bit yesterday, and really like it. Seems a bit strange at first, because you have been so used to the foot actually being in contact with the fabric when using the hopping foot.

Patricia, the foot that Sharon Schamber is offering looks similar to the westalee ruler foot which I have, but without the high sides necessary for ruler work. I'm wondering what the visibility is like? Have you had a chance to work with it?
I've gotten pretty spoiled by the visibility I get with the hopping foot that came with my PQ1500s--it's excellent for those times when I need to be able to see exactly where my needle is landing--I'd love it even more if it didn't hop. I'd use the westalee foot exclusively even when not using rulers if there weren't times when I want some extra visibility.

that's the foot I have, it came with my machine. Mine hops because it has the arm that hooks over the needle screw. I usually don't mind the hopping, but if I'm working on a piece that has lots of really small curves, then the hopping action can hinder making the curves smooth, unless I speed up the machine a lot which doesn't work as well when making tiny designs. That's when I switch to the westalee ruler foot-- it doesn't hop at all, but the trade off is slight loss of visibility.
