Trip around the World could work... I bought a charm pack of 170 5" blocks at WM and made this pattern

That's exactly what I was going to suggest, pinwheels!!! Or wait until Feb. 1st and I think we might be having a pinwheel challenge to participate in. We get to keep the quilt that we make. I think brushandthimble posted something about it a couple of days ago, but I may be mistaken.

I've just completed 2 Trip Around the World quilts. This is a wonderful suggestion & very easy. I'm pleased with how each one turned out.I'm sure you would be as well.

I would also recommend this pattern. I am also a new quilter and have made three using it and they turned out great. They are also easy to SITD if you aren't comfortable with FMQ. Good luck to you!
