I started this thread and ran into a glitch tonight. I downloaded 30 designs off the Internet, unzipped them with WinZip so they all have the PES file extension, copied them to my thumb drive and inserted it into my PE 770. The machine only recognizes 1/2 of the designs. They are all for a 5 x 7 hoop, so size isn't the problem. Any ideas anyone? Also, it was a package of 30 designs from embroidery.com

It is probably because you have too many designs on your USB for your machine to read. Mine does that too.

Try removing some or use another thumb drive and put what you need at the time on it, that's what I do and it is just fine.

The thumb drive was a new 2GB drive. The only files on that thumb drive were the ones I downloaded from embroidery.com. so do you mean 19 files was its capacity?

Probably so, because my Bernina only reads so many designs and I use a USB too. Just because the USB has a large memory, doesn't mean your machine can read that many at one time.

I love the toilet paper! I am fairly new to the embroidery world. I have a Bernina 640. Do you hoop the TP? Stabilizer?

mtnmamma I also have the 640. No, don't hoop it. I use polymesh cut away and hoop it. Then lay 3 pieces of TP folded on the perferation and either pin well or spray. Then lay a piece of tuell on top and stitch. That's how I do mine.

Joeysnana:
I'm a bit late seeing this thread but has anyone explained that every embroidery machine has a set stitch limit for any one design. In other words a detailed design area might fit in your 5 x 7 hoop but if it exceeds the number of stitches that your EM can do, then it won't read the design. EmbLibrary.com has a Help section which explains this so much better than I can. They also have a list of many different machines and their stitching limitations.

Have fun!

To answer the question....what do I embroider?? Nothing...I don't have a machine...and I want one so badly!! Santa forgot me, I guess. Instead he left me a TV for my sewing room. I know, I know, I should be happy...and I guess I am...just still wishing. :0(

I have been machine embroidering for quite a few years and have never heard that machines have a stich limit. According to the Embroidery/Library it is notably the Janome and Babylock that have a known limit of 65,000 stitches on any design they can read. I have a Bernina and have never come across a design that could not be read. Nor has anyone in our embroidery club had problems, Bernina, Babylock, etc. Maybe because 65,000 stitches would be an exceptionally large design.
So stitch away.
