Default Quilting a Pineapple Block Quilt

I have a 100" x 100" pineapple block quilt to finish and I would appreciate some feedback on how to quilt it. I was thinking about simply making long "organic" lines that swerve gently running from top to bottom. Bad idea? A better idea you can suggest? My FMQ skills are not good enough to tackle a quilt this size.

Since you don't FMQ, I have no suggestions. FMQ is always my answer.

does your sewing machine have a serpentine stitch? you could widen and lengthen it... makes nice quilting.

How about S.I.D? That would be my first choice because I don't FMQ.

This is only a portion of the design, but the lines fit the pattern beautifully and could be done with a walking foot (scroll down to black/white/red small quilt) - http://quiltinspiration.blogspot.com...log-cabin.html

You would have to figure out how to do the design without lots of stops and starts.

I would put on your walking foot & add the spacer bar to it...then start in center of quilt and spiral your way out with lines about 1.5" appart.

My preference on quilts that require a lot of piecing is a SITD, only because I like to let the pattern speak and not the quilting, YMMV, but I really do hope we get to see the finished project when your done, the pineapple quilt is on my bucket list.

There is lots of current information about quilting with the walking foot available. I would check out that by going to YouTube presentation or goggling the technique. I also think you need to consider that some kinds of quilting would distract from the pineapple pattern. And, a part of that impact is dictated by the amount of contrast in the fabrics you chose. I will be anxious to see what you choose to do.

I'll be keeping an eye on the responses to this question which is a great question!! I, too, want to make a Pineapple Quilt...but have wondered about the quilting. I have an OLD pineapple quilt, just red and white, and the hand quilting is 1/4" around EVERY PIECE!! Tiny little stitches. Momma had the quilt, but no one can remember where it came from or who made it. very sad... It is one of my treasures!

I like the idea of gently waving lines on a pineapple, too. Used what I think is the technique you're thinking of on this quilt:
