I'm making a scrappy log cabin.so I made one block to see how i would like it...

.I posted this fabric and a white fabric and everyone chose this one, it looks really white in the picture but it isn't, it is more of a dark off white or beige color..

So what do you think, should I try and find some other fabric that is darker for the light part of the block?

I wonder whether a plain/no print white or off white would be better? To my eye, the "white" is meant to be a contrast and compliment to the coloured fabrics. I think the pattern on the white tends to stop a nice clean contrast and compliment. Perhaps a less "structured" pattern like a marble blender or a batikin the white fabric would be a softer, more subtle effect? Just my thoughts....could be wrong!

Since you're the only one who can tell the true color, it's hard to advise. I know you are seeing a beige or softer white, but what I see is bright white. And it doesn't blend well with the earth tones of the batiks. Can you post a picture of a neutral that's a few shades darker than this one?

Or shift gears and try, instead of beige, a bluish grey batik, or even a pale yellow-green.

I think it looks fine. If you have some light marbled fabrics, as already suggested, try a block with that. Something like that should give you slightly less contrast if that's what you want. If the marbled fabrics aren't dark, you could mix them with these and have a scrappier look.

I like the white on white print fabrics. I'm not a big fan and solids. But I agree that in the pics the white looks very bright white and I think that I would like fabrics that were more beige or tan. I also think that a variety or shades of white/off white/cream/beige would be nice rather than just a block of white.

It all depends on the look you are going for. Be careful going with a darker light because you have some very light batiks on the dark side of your LC. Specifically those first two rounds that look like a soft yellow. If you go to beige on the lights you will lose the contrast. Personally, when it comes to LC blocks I like a high contrast like what you have pictured.

Edited to add, looking at your avatar picture, it seems you have a good eye for the contrast so go with your gut because I don't think you have any reason to 2nd guess yourself.

The white really does "pop" as I can see on your picture. I see that you are using some batiks on your other side and was wondering if you might possibly consider a beige batik. There are some beautiful off-white batiks that may be just the right tone for you. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I remember you asking about this. This does look quite white in the photo, but you say it is the darker of the two fabrics you showed here?

I do think it would look better with something darker, maybe another batik. Part of the problem might be that all of the batiks are patterned by you can't see the tonal patterns on the white, so it looks empty compared to the dark side.

OK.. after looking at this block for a while..when I go into the the sewing room, I do think it is to light of a color and it really doesn't go with the batik, so I will take it apart and see if I can find something a little more on the beige side...
This is the first time I am quilting with batik so it's all new to me..Thanks so much I really value all of your opinions...
