Default What is "firm" batting?

I'm going to a class in a week and one of the items on the list for a tote bag is "firm batting".

This instructor is from New Zealand and I don't have a contact for her to ask the question.

I'm wondering if "firm batting" means something specific like Bosal or something like that, in New Zealand....

What would you all bring?

Watson

What are you making? That may give a clue. Who is the instructor?

It used to be most totes/bags suggested fusible fleece but the current popular product is Bosal and you can get it with fusible on one side or both sides. Both work well the but the Bosal definitely is firmer than the fleece.

While you can't get in touch with the instructor, who is coordinating the course here?
Contact them, as they should have the answers.

There are some battings here in our LQS' that are specifically promoted as being for tote bags.
Sorry, but I can't think of the names ......

The concept being that they have the ability to let the bag stand up when you set it down,
rather than it slump into a puddle!

And if you want something really firm and stiff (like a board!) there are the Pellon products.
Again, sorry, but I forget what # they are.

the only thing difficult about firm batting is only a problem for me if I have to put the lining in and then turn the whole tote bag right side out threw a small opening. Not fun with really firm Bosal. I've decided it i ever used it again i would simply slip the lining in, slip straps in place and fold the raw edges inward and sew. done!
