I'm stuck...again. I'm down to quilting a lap quilt. I stitched in the ditch for the majority of the quilt but now there are some bigger places on the border where I'd like to use a chain border stencil. I've tried using my BSR but I can't get the thing to work right. (I'm sure it's me.) But to save time I thought I'd just do it some other way. Do I use the walking foot or just the 1/4" foot. How do others do it?

to follow stencil lines I would either use a straight foot or a free motion foot; depending on how you do it. I'm not good at FMQ so I use a regular foot and go slowly to follow the lines

walking feet are made for straight line quilting- if you want to do a design with curves you will find it easier to use a free motion foot (sometimes called a hopping foot or darning foot) with feed dogs down.

You could use no foot and a spring needle. This gives you the most visibility possible. Forget bsr and take your time.

Since you have a Bernina, use either the #9 closed toe embroidery foot or the #24 open toe embroidery foot (my favorite).
