Will you know the specific recipient? That makes it so much easier.

I was thinking the same thing today ! We have to make something also, our party is the first Sunday in Dec.
I an going to make a table runner. They make purses but I can't do that for some reason I stink at that. You could make an ornament, tote bag . Ours don't have to be quilty either. They have made knitted scarfs ,jewelry, and one year I got a set of placemats . have fun. Advice, Don't put to much into it.

Gifts that I have received at guild parties and enjoyed through the years:
1. Someone made me a hexagon box that has compartments & lids to hold straight pins, binding clips, and safety pins, I really enjoy it!
2. Someone made me a padded bag/can with handle, it's super for setting out at Xmas & putting a bottle of wine or whatever in.

A thread catcher is nice. It's something that most quilter's don't make for themselves and they are really handy. A jar pincushion with new flower head pins inside. A tablerunner or table topper. Who wouldn't like the two denim pockets sewn together with a selection of fat quarters rolled up and stuck in the pocket? (someone posted a picture of one)

A table runner, place mats or how about a basket with fat quarters etc in it.

No we will not know who will get the present, They put the bags in the front on the table and they draw your name and you go pick out which one you want............. :)

How about a candle mat or square table topper.
