Default How do you clean a buildup of stuff on the steam vents on your iron?

I have a newer iron and am getting a buildup of stuff....am guessing hard water minerals....in the steam vents....how do you clean that out?....I know I should be using distilled water, but hate to pay for water, so I have been using water from the fridge (filtered) and thought that would help but I guess I was wrong....ideas?

I use CLR...but you can use vinegar too. I have started using up the water in our water bottles that we tend to not finish. I just set them in the sewing room and use them each time I need to fill the iron. It isn't distilled, but it does seem to cut down on the build up.

I use vinegar and go outside and put it on the highest steam blast and blast it out. But it stinks but since it's outside, NP.Most steam irons tell you to use filtered water not distilled like they used to.

Mine has self cleaning option which I never use LOL, I use no scratch scowring pad and mild detergent. Baking soda works well but it is mildly abrasive.
Edited: I use LOng Island tap water in my iron.

Yep, I use vinegar and do it outside on my back patio where it is OK to stink the area up.

I always add white vinagar to my steam iron when I use it. A couple of TBLS. I think it helps keep the iron clean and It may be me but wrinkles just disappear whith no effort.
