Quilt Almanac 2013-on newstand now, from editors of Quilt magazine...it is on the front cover, lower right corner and its instructions inside either call for template cutting or paper piercing......lots like it would be fun to make, I do think though that this one has a bigger "star", but still scrappy....I am going to attempt the paper piecing one........

They are similar in look (if that's the block you were both referencing), but the construction is very different.

The hummingbird is made up of 4 smaller square blocks, giving the appearance that the star is on point.
Also, the secondary pattern is different - no more octagon shape, which is what I think makes the Spiderweb quilt so cool.

Alas, you still have to match up all those points when joining the blocks.

Thanks for mentioning it - I hadn't heard of the "hummingbird" block before.

My Mother always called this Periwinkle Star. It is not a cathedral windows or snowball, but it appears it is also called Arkansas Star. I have one my Mother made in the 1970's. Love it!

Here are some templates for making a "Periwinkle Star" - but I think that would be only for hand piecing.
Or EPP (cutting off the seam allowances).
I wouldn't bother attempting this by machine - doable, but I'm not a masochist.

And here's the piecing for the Arkansas Star (as a 9patch) - this looks to have the easiest piecing and would still get you the octagon, but you do have those extra seam lines.

I too, fell in love with this quilt so I sent a message to her. I just got a reply that said that it is an antique quilt of Jenny's and that there is no pattern to offer. Some of the answers from other board members are so close that I believe we could put one together.

I've seen it under many names, but I made a similar quilt years ago and it was called Arkansas Snowflake, and I've also seen it named hummingbird. You could go to quilter's cache and might find a few more names.

I have a small antique piece and was told by a quilting elder it was Hummingbird. Mine is done in fabrics from the 20's-30's.
The white corners are one piece and the top is all hand pieced.

It is Hummingbird. I was looking at some back issues of my quilt magazines this morning and what do you know, there was the pattern in Issue 65 Jan 2000 "Traditional Quiltworks'". This magazine is no longer being published, which is a shame because it was a great mag. Unlike the Arkansas Snowflake this pattern only has 8 pieces, 4 kite pieces and 4 background pieces which makes the snowball when the blocks ore sewn together.
