Default What is Shot Cotton?

I thought I knew fabric pretty well but while looking at Pinterest today I saw a dress made with Shot Cotton. I must confess that due to an up coming move I have not shopped for or bought any fabric in a few months So it looks like I missed a new thing and I need to know, What is Shot Cotton?

Well, I've looked at tons of fabric, but I've never heard of it either.... I googled and found a photo at

Shot Cotton is also new to me. Thank you for the picture. Because it ravels, I don't think it is a fabric I need in my stash.

ah ha! Thanks so much. I googled it as well but just found a place where to buy it & what colors they had. It looks cool but like Betty said I don't need something that ravels in my stash.

I googled it and looked at several different sites. From what I can gather it's very soft and lighter than regular quilting cotton. Sounds interesting to me; be good for summer and/or baby quilts maybe.
Thanks for the tip!

Looks almost like lawn. Connecting Threads is carrying that now.

The shot cottons that Kaffe Fassett released are absolutely gorgeous. Shot cottons are made with 2 different colors of thread, so the color of the fabric appears to change when you look at it from different angles. I've only seen the ones that Kaffe did, they're shimmery and beautiful. There's another brand out there called Oakshott.

I didn't think it would be something that someone had been using for target practice
