OK... I found a free pattern on the net for a pinwheel sampler quilt. Some of the blocks are to be cut 7 3/16th inch squares. Uhhh... do I have to get out my husbands tape ruler to get them accurate?

or you could just mark your ruler with tape at 7 3/16

Some rulers have the 16ths on them. I know what you mean. I bought one because I had a hard time with this type of measurements.

Oh good grief!! Why do the pattern makers do that! I would probably just eyeball between 1/8 and 1/4 and call it good. With the other 7" in that measurement, you'll never notice that it's not right on the button.

I usually cut big and then trim down after the block is pieced. Try 7 1/4 or even 7 1/2.
