FYI:A foot literally was the length of some king's foot, forgot which one. A yard was literally from the tip of his nose down his outstretched arm clear to the tips of his fingers. (My mother would estimate the yardage of her stash that way, surprisingly acurate). An inch was the length of 3 barley corns. An acre was the area a man with a walking plow could plow in a day.
Today a dollar bill is 6 inches long.

I've always been to afraid to tie baby quilts. When I do tie quilts It is for heavy use (like grandma use to make) so I use yarn cuz it's cheaper than pearle cotton (save that for buttonhole wool applique), and I also bar tack, just in case! I don't put anything on a baby quilt that could possibly come off in little hands or mouths.

Wow, that sounds really cool!! Do u have a special machine for that? I am not that good of friends with my machine; but, I just got a new Bernina 240 that I love, so, I am trying to get better!

I have a 20 year old Bernina 1230 and it has those special stitches, altho I have not used them to "tie" a quilt but sounds like a cute idea. I'm not familiar with the 240 but it must be heavenly to have a new Bernina.

You really shouldn't tie baby quilts because if the tie should come loose the baby can choke on it. I have used my sewing
machine and a fancy stitch like a heart and set my machine to only do one motif, then stitch that where I would normally tie it. They look really cute that way, and no fuzzy ends for baby to get caught on.
