Question More quilting space between needle and front of table?

When machine quilting, whether it be FMQ or SITD, do any of you prefer to have more surface area between the front edge of the table and the needle? Sometimes I do, especially with larger quilts. Here is a link to a video to make your own sewing table and reverse the foam for quilting.

Just wondering if any of you modify your tables to give you more space in front of needle when machine quilting? And if so, how?

I haven't quite figured this one out. I thought I'd like a machine set in, but now I am glad I didn't cut a hole in my table. I like moving my machine around to fit my needs at the time. I'm a fidget-er anyway, and I re-adjust the machine and my chair and the foot pedal all the time! Plus, at times, it's easier to pivot the machine than the quilt.

So, I haven't answered your question at all.... But I am interested in other responses...

I found that I can't move my machine too far from the edge of the table. About 6 inches is all that is comfortable for me. I don't don't like having to reach further and I find I hunch over to see what I'm doing. Maybe you'll have better luck than I did.

That is a good point. I am not sure what my comfort level would be if I had more quilting space from the needle to the end of my sewing table. It seems like I would want to lower the table so there would be less of areach and less hunching over.
