What type of quilt and date?
Hi,
I had this quilt left to me and am trying to learn more about it. I would like to know what type of quilt it is and how I can tell the approximate date? I think it is old but I don't know? Anyone have a guess as to this quilt's value? It is on a queen size bed in the picture.

It doesn't have to have a bat or backing. Fine the way it is. I bet it weighs a ton! Very nice.
As for date, quilts are dated by the newest fabric in the quilt. Google dating cotton fabric and see what you find.
It may take some research.

Yo-you quilt. I concur with the rest of the folks. Date goes by newest fabric. My Mom made one of these in the late 50's-60's. Her's didn't have a backing or batting either. I believe this is the way they were done.
Good luck! Love the quilt.

It probably isn't worth a great deal of money - I had an old quilt appraised - it was worth about $300.00 and was from the late 1800's. To me it is priceless as my grandfather helped piece it when he was a little boy - It was a functional quilt that was used a lot - log cabin with shirtings and even eyelet fabric. Seems like the quilts that are worth a lot of money are like Baltimore Albums, etc. Enjoy your quilt - it is a treasure.

If there is a quilt museum or historical society in your area they may be able to help date the quilt. You can check the completed listings on eBay to get a better idea of what they're selling for.
