Give it to him and then you both can snuggle up under it.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!!
So glad you were able to be straight forward with him and let him know that you have already made something for him. I understand money being tight and also understand his wish to limit the spending. I am sure he knows that he already has the best gift...your love. Now a reminder of that love comes wrapped up in a quilt. Perhaps, as suggested earlier, you wouldn't want to give it to him in front of family, but in some special alone time might be nice.

Oh, would love to see a pic of the quilt.

Merry Christmas! And congrats on almost being done with your associates degree. Well done!

This is really hard. If you give it to him he will feel really bad especially if you did not mention to him that you had made him something when he told you.

I like the idea of giving it to him as a gift not at Christmas - that way you still give it to him but he won't feel so bad and he can buy you something as a surprise when he can afford it. I think you should respect his wishes

There was a time in the middle 70's when it was all the rage for a short time (thanks to a popular self help book on marriage) to meet your husband at the front door wearing saran wrap, a bow and a big smile. Maybe you could try a version of this wearing just the quilt. And yes, my husband really liked the greeting.

I would give him the quilt and tell him you had already started it before he made his announcement.

I would give it as a gift from "Santa", if he worries tell him you had already planned it and did not spend money you don't have now.

Tell him it is not a Christmas gift, but a "Thank you", for all he means to you.

Like joyce888, I would offer to make a deal to make something for each other & give him some suggestions for things he could do for you each month. Kind of like a coupon book, maybe a back rub, wash the dishes, take your car in for service or oil change, take you out for a special meal (could be something as simple as breakfast at McD's or as extravagant as he wants to get). Or you could give him the idea to take $20 and see how many useful/helpful things he can find for you at the $$store. Gifts don't always have to be expensive to be wonderful.
Don't let his feeling of not affording it take away the pleasure & love you put into making a quilt for him. It is a gift you will both enjoy & appreciate, so you should still give it to him. The love you share is really the most important gift you give each other every day.
