Grandmother's old paper pieced quilt tops
I have been given my husband's grandmother's old paper pieced quilt sections with the old paper from catalogs and newspapers still on the back. I would love to prepare them for display so you would be able to see them from both sides. It is interesting to see dresses for 2.50 and two horse wagon for 79.00 but it is also interesting to see the material from the 40's. Do any of you have ideas on preserving these family heirlooms?

my first thought it to put glass on both sides. you can hang it somewhere where both sides can be viewed. or put it on a hinge on one side so you can 'turn the page' to see the other side.

What an excellent idea! And you could display them on a wall in your hallway, around your fireplace, in the den...Give this idea some thought. I enjoy looking at old newspapers & ads & such.

Before I did anything, I would talk to a conservator about how best to preserve both the fabric and paper from being destroyed by UV light, heat, moisture etc., then take them to a frame shop where they will be able to do what needs to be done to protect these priceless family pieces for generations to come. You are very fortunate to have such a special treasure.

I would make them into a quilt. I wouldn't worry too much about preserving the paper, it is just pieces of catalogs and newspapers, (both items that are readily found elsewhere, like ebay, not cut up) --not exactly the Declaration of Independence!!
