Cutting borders the length of fabric instead of the width???

I cut most of my borders from the length (you can always find a use for the left-overs), but often suffer from the cuts not being as accurate as I would like. I have always been able to compensate, but would like to know your hints and tips. I have tried the fold method, but that leaves me and the border a little wonky!

TIA

I use my big cutting mat and a very long cutting ruler then line it up with each cut to make it straight. I have tried ripping it but not crazy over the edges.

As others have replied, tearing is the most accurate. Just make the strip a little wider and then trim off the ravels. Makes your quilt hand straighter as well.
