Here is my story - I got my first Featherweight June 16, 1949 - paid $147.90 including tax. Took out a loan as didn't have the full payment for it - Then paid $20 per month until it was paid off. I'd said when Singer comes out with a zig zag I would sell this Featherweight and get the newer machine - which took place in Dec. 1954 I received $125 trade in at the time of making the new Singer 306W machine purchase. I've used the Singer 306W machine ever since - sewing on fine silks - to leather, canvas and etc. Plus I did buy myself another Featherweight in 2008 for $400 and it is just like the one I'd gotten in 1994.I have other machines also. A lot of folk have asked me, "Aren't you sorry you traded in your first Featherweight Singer?" My response is "NO" as I couldn't justify getting the machine with Zig-zag and BLIND hemmer and other decorative stitches without the trade in. All in all I liked the Featherweight and made my exquisite wedding dress on it back in 1953 and many many other items. My latest machine purchase is a Bernina that I purchased a few months ago on EBay. Dorothy Coleman

I got my black 1951 FW last summer. My husband got it for me on e-Bay. I had showed him pictures from this QB and mentioned how cute they are, but I didn't really want one. He got it for me as a surprise. I love it, but HE also feel in love with it. He has been ordering FW's non-stop and repairing them and reselling them, so he can buy more. He loves working and cleaning them and has learned how to sew on them also. We have sold several of them here on this QB and will have a couple for sale this week. On my birthday last Saturday, he got me a white FW - just as cute as can be. So now I have a black and a white FW. - Cynthia

My departed Mom gave me my featherweight. It's a thing of beauty. It was a brand new or almost brand new one.. Seems someone bought it and stuck it in the closet.. never did use it. . either someone wanted them to sew and they didn't want to, or they thought they wanted to, but soon discovered they did not.. whatever.. when I got it probably in the late 70's the attachments were still wrapped with tissue paper.. It had the book, oil can, screw driver, tape measure and every other thing that came with it.. It's my favorite machine of all.

Then I got two more in a sale.. I bought the "lot" for just $300.. Got a beautiful Bernina 1230, a Bernina surger, a Singer 301, an embroidery machine with it's extras and plenty of designs and the two featherweights... What a bargin! A once in a lifetime thing for sure.

I'm set with wonderful machines for the rest of my life!

I got mine 4 weeks ago from a couple who were advertising on Kijiji. They didn't know what they had.

I have a black and a white FW. I got my black FW last summer from my husband as a surprise. I wasn't really even interested until I got mine. This past Saturday, my husband got me a white FW for my birthday. I love both of them. They are so cute. What is unusual - my husband is the one that is addicted to the FW's. Since last summer, he has been buying them and repairing/cleaning them and then reselling. He loves working on them and enjoys making the buyers happy. All of the women who have bought from him so far are so very happy with their FW's. - Cynthia

Frankly my DH got into it when I was buying mine, too. I think they are so cute and all mechanical...it's not hard to love 'em!

In January of this year I was blessed with my 1st FW. I wanted a good running, reliable sewing machine. Specifically a FW and it was OK if she her looks had faded and she didn't look fancy or pretty.

In January DH found an old ad on craigslist from December. I thought it would have been sold but it wasn’t! The gentleman who answered the phone said the FW had been his wife’s and she had passed away a couple years ago. He had just sold 3 of her other FW’s. When I saw her it was love at first sight :-P I hadn’t expected her to be so well cared for. The lady bought her 2nd hand in the 1950’s and used her ever since. She made quilts, clothes and dolls with her.

I named her Ayasha (means ‘Little One’ in Cheyenne) Kuwanlelenta (means ‘To make beautiful surroundings in Hopi.) She was born in 1948 somewhere between April & June. She sews like a dream and is so pretty.

I was given my Great Aunts FW I'm not sure if it is a 221 or 222. She was given to me the year my oldest started school. I had made him some pants by hand and my mother was very impressed and told my Grandmother. She had the FW, when my Great Aunt died she got her belongings. So they thought that I would appreciate it and use it which I have. After hearing that everyone in this large family has named their FW's I decided to name mine after my Great Aunt...Geneva

I just got my first featherweight off ebay today for $235 plus shipping. It was supposed to be in "excellent" condition. However, when it came, the cord was very frayed and had exposed wires. My husband tried to fix it, but the cord was so brittle that it began crumbling. Needless to say, we are trying to get another cord before we can even see if it works. It's also a little junkie looking on the inside. May just need to be cleaned. I just emailed LostN51 to see how to pick someone to service it. The ebay seller did say that he would take it back if I can't get it to work but it's such a pain with all of the shipping and waiting. I am printing a manual off the internet now to figure out what attachments I have. I also will need to order bobbins. I'm hoping when I get a cord and if the machine will turn on that I can get it tuned and working. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

I found a Singer 15 on Craigslist and drove way across town to see it. The guy wanted $75 dollars for it. When I arrived he told me he had another machine that had also belonged to his mom...when I saw it was a Featherweight, I told him I'd rather buy that one. He said I could have both for $125 or the Featherweight would cost a lot more by itself. I bought them both, and then sold the 15 for $40, so I think I got a great deal. It's a 1956, same age as me.
