OK so I have a small problem on my hands. I pieced my back matching the pattern and it look fantastic. But it is too small by just a few inches. I bought a companion print and I will add it to the sides but I will have to cut off some of the first back so it looks like adding the companion print was planned.

So my question is - do I cut off of both sides of the first back or can I cut from one side and have what was my "middle" seam now off to one side.

The reason I would like to do this is so I have one usable piece of fabric instead of two long scraps. I hope this makes sense.

I think I would slice a bit from each side. You can always use it as the binding........

It depends on if you will really notice the seam on the back. I never put a seam in the middle of my back anyway. I make a tube and then cut one side of the tube in half and then I have an even seam on each side.

It is best not to have a middle seam on the back. It should be to the side because repeated folding will weaken/break the threads. Thus, you're better off to off set the seam and have a decent piece of left over fabric.

I try to never have a center seam in the back so it should work out OK.

I think cut some off both sides to make it even. Penny

I cut pieces off from both sides as well. I don't have my seams in the middle either

I agree with Anne, cut on each side.
