Do you start at the top and work your way down, or in the middle? I am doing 2 lap size quilts for presents, they are strip pieced jelly roll.

I've done it both ways on smaller quilts, but the bed size I started in the middle.

The main idea is to avoid having the backing skewing and not covering the front. Starting in the middle of the quilt is a sure way of avoiding this problem.

Thanks, I am using a curved needle with two different color embroidery floss - green and red. The quilt is Christmas prints.

Middle is where I start when I tie.

I will baste one side on lap quilts. Then pin every 6" (inches) in rows
Working from baste side away from me. I start tying. As I work, I check with my hands yo make sure fabric is smooth with no nunching. If it has then I move pin smooth out and repin. Works up fast.

When I tied them, I always pinned them all over. About every 6-8 inches.
I sit on the floor and use my coffee table for it. I start in the middle and tie all the way across one row at a time. It wasn't very comfy sitting on the floor, but it made it so much easier. It was nice when I had my DD helping.

I start in the middle of the middle row working my across to each side. Then I go to one row up and then one row down until it is done.
