What if I simply stack red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and then the black & whites in the same size strips as in the log cabins and repeat until I've gone all the way around? Think that would work???? Or am I describing a piano key variation?

I agree...unfortunately....the quilt looks complete as is. If it has to be larger, just frame with black tone on tone...will keep original intact.

What about doing a pineapple block border with black and white as the main colors and triangles in your primary colors?

I think I'd use some more of the log cabin blocks. So far so good. I love the butterflies and the crosses.

It is beautiful so far!!! My first thought is more Log cabin blocks, but you said that it doesn't work to well. Maybe a Piano Key variation.

Here's my humble opinion: You said you will have the light center color as the ending 9-1/2" sash. My opinion is that this lighter color will visually 'lift' the quilt off the bed when you really want the quilt to 'settle' on the bed. You've done a great job drawing the eye to the center of the quilt so I think that last 9-1/2" sash should be any of the darker colors - keeping the lighter color and the other bright colors in the center only.

If you worked up something (9 patch or maybe piano keys but in the same width strips as the log cabin pieces?) with the darker colors (no whites or brights) and then ended with the darker 9-1/2" sash the eye could still be drawn to the center - which seems to be what you are after.

Personally I wouldn't add any more bright colors.

And....... it's lovely right now!

I think using one of the bright colors in the log cabin blocks as another border would look nice. Maybe the red! Red always looks great. If you want, you could do another block in each corner (don't know if that would look okay or not).
