Default Quilting question re:tee-shirt quilts

Just wondering what kind of needles you use in your machines when quilting a tee shirt quilt that hopefully has been stabilized...any problems? What about long arm machine quilting on a tee shirt quilt? Any concerns?

I usually use a 'sharp' in what ever size is appropriate for the thread I am using when quilting a t-shirt quilt with my domestic machine- when I use the long arm I use the needle that is the right size for the thread I am using. I've not had problems quilting t-shirt quilts.

I had the same concerns re needles and/or quilting designs or problems. There may be a t-shirt quilt in my near future. I'll be watching this thread for more information. Thanks for posting it.

no special needles here.....i tend not to quilt through the design on the t-shirt [go around it ] and use the heat -n-bond in the purple package it is for sewing ...[red is a no sew ]...................another trick i peel it off the paper backing ..when putting on the back of the shirt it is easier to see through the backing paper ...i use thin fabric or old sheets to stabilize put that on top of heat-n-bond iron one time .trim and sew

This post will have lots of great ideas on how to quilt it.

As to the needle question, I've not quilted a t-shirt quilt on a longarm, but I've paid attention to those who have and made notes that I'd want to use a "topstitch" needle, size 16 or 18. They have a longer scarf, which gives the thread more space and reduces friction and wear on the thread as it moves through the fabric. But I could be wrong! Hopefully someone will come along and confirm or correct my info.
