I have a bag of shirts from my father, and have been racking my brain trying to figure out what I want to do with them.. I have his ties also.. Dad's been gone for three years, and I'm not any closer to figureing it out.. The buttons could come in handy if you tie a quilt.. I used them instead of tieing a quilt.. I also might consider using the buttons on a quilt as embellishment..

[QUOTE=hopetoquilt;5090392..... He just bought a pile of new work clothes and he is getting rid of the old stuff that is worn/torn/out of style or just doesn't fit right anymore........[/QUOTE]

Whew, that's a relief; for a minute there I thought maybe you'd been influenced by some of the day's chuckles we've been reading about female revenge! I wondered if he'd be walking around in black plastic garbage bags!

String the buttons together and they make cute bracelets for kids.

Red Rooster has a freebie pattern http://www.redroosterfabrics.com/con...ls.php/id/6850
that's perfect for recycling men's shirts and/or a memory quilt.

The ones you don't sell in the yard sale could be donated to a shelter or church but dress shirts aren't as needed as work shirts, plaids flannels, etc. I cut up my hubby's dress shirts too because no one wanted them at the mission.

Sounds great! The buttons are a bonus. I collect buttons and have some pretty cool ones.

Sounds like a nice project. Your dh is way ahead on his spring cleaning. I love buttons and always cut them off of things and save them. Have fun making your quilt.

This is a very responsible project (re-cycling), and imagine the great associations it will have for your children!

I just love, love, love hearing that you are using DH's shirts for a quilt and saving the buttons, too! That is the essence of old time quilting. Good for you!
