I buy my backing usually at www.fabric.com I'm not sure if it tells you how much to buy or not but they sell the wide fabric (108 inches). If you measure your quilt, then just divide by 36 inches to see how many yards you need. Myself, I would round up and buy more than I needed to be on the safe side.

check around different quilt shops on line some carry wides up to116"- 120" wide. 3 yards gives you 108" so if you get 3 1/2 yards of wide your fabric will be the width x 126". so...i would think you need 3 1/2 yards.
