I use a thread stand at the end of the machine and thread it through the thread hold on the stand and then feed through the machine in the regular way. One of my machines has a safety pin taped beside the wheel to run the thread through before filling a bobbin or sewing, I guess it adds a little tension.

I just hold the cone horizontally with my left hand - fingers wedged inside the cone holding it steady. Next the thread goes through the thread guide. I use the fingers on my right hand to gently help guide the thread and apply any needed tension.

I bought it at Nancy Notions several years ago. Connecting Threads use to sell beautiful metal thread stands. I received one as a gift and it is very nice but not as functional as the Superior one.

If I had cones I would put it in a mug. I have done that with the larger spools of thread, when using my stand alone bobbin filler..

I use serger thread a lot. Never had a problem with it. I use a thread holder that I place to the right of my machine and it works great for sewing and filling a bobbin.

I've been using it for years. It has worked fine for me for piecing and even quilting.

IN fact, the thinner thread for piecing is nice because it helps you keep those 1/4" seams since a thicker thread takes up a bit more space.

You might want to think about that in addition to the strength surger thread is very lintie or linty. Lots of lint. Calla

If you buy CD's, the thing they come in has a spindle and a lot of them can be used to place the spool on and use that in a pinch
