What quilt shops are there within an hour of Winston? I will be in the area sometime in the next couple of weeks and would love to visit a few. Thanks!

About 20 or 25 miles north of Winston, there is a small town called Mt. Airy. The name is Creative Sewing Machines. It is on Main street. Mt. Airy would also be an interesting place to visit. It is the home of the famous Mayberry in the old Andy Griffith television show. And, please plan on eating at Sonny's (?). They have the magnificient 'pork chop sandwich'. Anyone in town can tell you the name of the cafe. It is a very small place with limited seating and extremely busy during the lunch hour. I think they close at around 2 pm. The quilt shop is where I purchased my Bernina. The fabric selection is very good, and the people are extremely friendly. I really miss that place. Hope you get a chance to visit.

If you will be with someone who is familiar with the surroundings, or if you are adventurous, there is a fabric store (not a quilt shop) north of Winston on old Hwy 52 on the way to King, NC. This store is 'unbelievable'. All kinds of fabric, all colors, anything you would want, and the prices were very reasonable (it's been over 4 years since I've been there). The downstairs is nothing but muslin, bleached and unbleached. I apologize for not being able to remember their name. I hope it is still there. It was owned by an elderly couple. If I can find their name on some old paperwork, I will let you know. Enjoy your trip. I miss that area of the country. It is beautiful. Let me know when you get back if you were successful and finding it.

There are a few in Winston-Salem. The ones I have been to are Sew Original, and Sewingly Yours (Lewisville address). Both are on main roads, and have websites:

www.seworiginal.org
www.sewinglyyours.net

Enjoy your visit!
