Last February, during a wrestling match with a calf, I experienced my first and only wrenched back, so badly that I couldn't walk without help. Couldn't turn over in bed. Couldn't get out of a chair without help. I have never in my life been so debilitated! (First time I had actually been able to empathize with back patients, too  )
Hubby took me to his chiropractor (who practices low impact - - don't know the right word for it) and Dr Ross explained the heat/cold difference.
I had to figure it all out, but it helped that when hubby bought me a new van, he bought one with fanny heaters in the front seat.
I'm telling you! Those are MARVELOUS things in the early morning cold, but I had noticed that after heating up with the fanny heater and then traveling long distances, when I got out of the van, I could hardly walk ... so, when Dr Ross explained it to me, I put that together with my experiences, had my AH HA! moment and proceeded to spread "the gospel" <g>
I believe in giving people the best advice I have when it seems to be needed ... (that is what saved my life for so many years, and I try to pass it on) I have long ago given up being concerned about being considered a buttinsky <g> ... if I help someone by sharing what I have learned, that is great! <wave>
Ahhhh experience is the best educator! Thanks so much, I'm doing better already, who knew?! Why do they make all those 'heat patches' for pulled muscles?
I do remember my chiropractor telling me something along those lines many years ago, but my light bulb didn't blink until you brought it up! Thanks again!
Blessings,
MaryAnna
PS wrestling calves? whew, brave lady!

I am in too! I have a list of 28 projects, I am in the process of photographing for the new year. I actually have two lists; one for WIPs and one for UFOs. I define a UFO as anything that rolled over unfinished from 2010, and WIPs are projects that are started new for 2011. Can you believe on the first day of the year I've decided to start 10 new projects? :)

My UFOS:
P01 (QP) - I'll Put a Hex(agon) You
P02 - CUSTOM - Cothron Wedding Quilt (piecing in progress)
P03 (QP) - Chiselry Is Not Dead
P05 - Take 5 Black & White (cutting & piecing)
P06a - Oh Cherry Oh DNP #1 (ready for quilting, binding made)
P06b - Oh Cherry Oh DNP #2 (ready for quilting, binding made)
P06c - Oh Cherry Oh DNP #3 (ready for quilting, binding made)
P06d - Oh Cherry Oh DNP #4 (ready for quilting, binding made)
P07 - String Quilt (piecing in progress)
P09 - Bargello Table Runners (~30) (binding in progress; 11 complete)
P10 - Mod Bento Box Block Swap (cutting in progress)
P16 - Apple Core Quilt (cutting complete)
P18 - The Kona Project
P21 - Oh Cherry Oh Braid (fabrics selected)
P22 - Bonnie Hunter's Double Delight Variation (fabrics selected)
P23 - Double Wedding Ring Scrap Quilt (piecing)
P24 - Liberty French Inspired Queen (piecing in progress)
P25 - QuiltPossible! Block Sampler (4/12 blocks made)

WIPS
P20 - Pineapple Quilt (piecing in progress)
P04 (QP) - Tumbling Windmills
P08 - Batik Charms & Strips
P11 - Cozy Quilts Boxed Squares
P12 - Red White & Blue Tumblers
P13 - Scrappy Apple Core Toppers (4)
P14 - QFK Scrap Strip Quilt
P15 (QP) - Spare Change
P17 - Happy Camper
P19 - Beyond Symmetry Project
P26 - Vintage Embroidery Pillows (~30)
P27 - Maddie's Tree Wall Hanging

Looking forward to reporting progress along all fronts!

Happy New Year,

Ebony

i am still in but have to say...this week was very overwhelming just trying to figure out all of the ufo's and priority ... there is so much...i don't know how i let it get so out of control and i don't know where to start. i have orders for (8) different kids quilts- 2 were supposed to be for christmas, the other 6 is new; i have 3 quilts waiting for bindings, 4 quilts waiting to be quilted and bound. i have 5 different bom's in various stages. i have boxes and boxes of blocks...from swaps, from learning new techniques, from quilts i started...made a bunch of blocks for quilts and for what ever reason stopped at some point...then months later use the fabric for something else totally and find the blocks...oh that's what i had that fabric for
2 christmas quilts one i started 6 years ago, have 6 of 15 blocks done, one i started 2 years ago...it is hanging in the sewing room in sections. see how i'm rambling...i'm so overwhelmed...i dont' know where to start. i am going to start with going out & fixing some new year's breakfast...then take a nice long shower, then go into the sewing room and just ... start cleaning i guess...if i really go through stuff and put away and box up to give away maybe i will be able to put together a list and start the new year off right
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE ! I MIGHT STOP BACK BY LATER WITH A PROGRESS REPORT :-D

ckcowl, yes it can be overwhelming, hence the need to organize. I think you've got your answer and stratedy already! It sounds like the 8 children's quilts are a priority and the quilts in need of binding, then the quilts needing quilting & binding, then working on your boms.
I think if you can tackle these projects first, you're doing great! After that I"m sure you'll find the rest that are hiding from you now.
You've got your projects lined up already!
Go get 'em. Remember it's easier to finish the ones that are closest to completion first. Work on the quilts needing bindings today! And post a pic!
Blessings,
MaryAnna

Welcome onboard Ebony! Yes, New Years is the time of New beginnings always, so I can believe 10 new projects are lined up! It's best to complete the ones that are almost done first and proceed down the list in that order. Everything gets done faster. I've only had a few 'true UFO's' and everything else on my list is a WIP or a PIGS.
Let's finish them all this year! All while on a 'fabric diet'. We can buy new fabric, but only if we need it to complete projects.
Blessings,
MaryAnna

I'm in.
Our guild has a WIP, UFO challenge going to see how many we can get done by November.
Participating in both places sounds good to me.
At last count I had close to 100. If I can make a dent i will have more space and have a great many Christmas gifts done for next year.

Welcome onboard kateyb! Yes, it's a great plan to be involved with both. I joined the yahoo group, stashbusters, for that 'extra edge' myself. And maybe we can borrow some of their challenges as well. They have a great success rate. Someone on their group finished 33 quilts for 2010....so I have hope for me!!!

Big Secrets for success:

1. Know what you're up against, or how many projects you're gonna tackle- either in groupings, or in total. Some can't find everything all at once, so do what you can find first.

2. Organize according to either longevity (how long you've had it lying around) or, what I think is better, how much work to finish it off. The ones closest to finishing should be done first.

3. Once organized and lined up, don't have them 'right in your face' to taunt you, rather put them in a closet (or out of direct sight) in the order of attack. Keep a list- I like the grease board idea given by one of our members- and scratch them off the list as you get them done. I would keep the list where you can see it.

And don't forget to share with us your victories, your photos, and if you're frustrated with a quilt....we're all in this together!

Blessings,
MaryAnna
