I have and use both. I agree, the Steady Betty definitely grips the fabric. I love how flat my blocks are using either of these. If I had to buy only one, I would buy the largest wool mat I could afford and have a flat surface to put it on. In my dream world, it would be as large as a Big Board.

Just got my wool pressing mat today. Used it to press mountain of HST and seams are so crisp. Don't use steam since I press with a small craft/travel iron but mist the fabric instead. Great new sewing gadget to add to increasing supply of "stuff".

Thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences with these products. I do like the results with the wool pressing mat.

Today I saw on MSQ that there is a Steady Betty Wooly Betty! One side is a wool mat and the other side is the dense foam. It is a combo of both! Has anyone used this?

I have the larger wool pad and will never be without one again--ever! My first use was a little worrisome because it smelled like a wet dog (nothing against dogs). It took about a half dozen uses before the smell subsided. I purchased mine on Ebay for less than half the cost most notions departments are asking.
