I've been hearing about this more and more... the idea of paying someone to attach your binding for you. People pay to have their quilts machine quilted, so why not, right? And I know many a person who complains about doing binding.

So I'm toying with the idea of offering my services on that. I'm wondering if 1) that sounds like something you would ever be interested in, 2) how much would you pay? By the inch, flat fee, etc, 3) would you want to cut your own strips and then have someone machine and hand attach? Or you just give them quilt and uncut binding fabric and they do it all, 4) ummm... whatever other thoughts you have :?:

I enjoy doing binding and when I do a few quilts in a row, I get really fast at it (I did a queen size quilt in 5 hours). Plus extra $ would be really helpful right now.

I have sewn binding on for others, and sometimes they sew it on and I hand sew it to the back. Diffentely let folks know you are available for this service.

My friend that does this charges a penny an inch. Personally, I like to sew on binding. It is TV work.

I have paid to have the binding done on several quilts. I cut it, folded and ironed it, and gave it to a gal to do. But for the life of me I can't remember what she charged. I do know it was by the inch but not how much per inch. It was well worth it for me and she did nice work. Her mom does my quilting for me. But now that I've retired that may change. I now have more time and less money instead of vice versa. Isn't that always the way?

Penny an inch seems pretty cheap. If it's a 60" square quilt, that's like $2.40. I want at least $10 for my time :-D

Maybe she charges a penny per square inch of the quilt, so a 6x60 would cost $36 ... that seems more likely.

I like to do binding too and have gotten paid for doing it too. I prefer to cut the fabric myself.

I love to do bindings, and have done some for others (and gotten paid). Seems the prevalent charge is $0.04-5 per inch. I also prefer to cut the bindings myself.

And how do you advertise your services? Just to friends/word of mouth? Actual ads? Craigslist?
