Default Woven or Non-Woven Fusible Interfacing?

When doing Eleanor Burns' method of fusible applique (sew right sides of your fabric shape and fusible interfacing together, turn, cut small slit in middle of interfacing, and fuse to your background), do I need woven or non-woven fusible interfacing? I will be at my nearest Jo-Ann's tomorrow, 45 miles away and need purchase the correct kind. MANY THANKS!

I've been sewing for well over 50 years and to be perfectly honest, I couldn't tell you the difference between the two. That being said, when I use this method, I use the lightest weight fusible interfacing I can find, usually a Pellon sold by the yard, and it's always worked just fine. Hope this helps.

the biggest difference between woven & nonwoven interfacing is:
woven interfacing is more like a fabric- non-woven more like a paper product. the woven behaves like fabric- drapes, moves- the non-woven is a bit more paper like- stiffer, it is easier to get wrinkles from the fusable non-woven--
non-woven is also more readily available & less expensive- either one will work- but woven for your purpose may be a bit easier to work with- non-woven can tear easily too...

The Eleanor Burns method used the non-woven lightweight fusible interfacing.
