Wrap-N-Zap vs. Quilter's Dream for Microwave bowls ???
Today I bought some Pellon Wrap-N-Zap 100% cotton batting which is made specifically for use in the microwave. I intend to make some of those microwave bowls. I have already made some with Quilter's Dream 100% cotton batting because it has no glues or scrim, but I thought maybe the Pellon product was better suited an safer for use in the microwave. But now that I have it, I see the package says: "100% natural cotton batting", "Microwave safe", "Do Not Leave Microwave Unattended While in Use", and "Wrap-N-Zap is not fire proof or flame retardant"!! Now I'm thinking it's just an unnecessary expense and no better than the Quilter's Dream batting I already had. Does anyone know for sure?

Up front, I do not know for sure...........however.......with that said one of my LQS owner sells the 'tater batting' from Warm n Natural, she suggested using what I already have, 100% cotton to give it a try. If the 100% cotton doesn't have any other stuff in it I don't see why it won't work. Do a sample and test for yourself, then share the results with the rest of us, jmho.

There has been more than one thread on this board and others about potato bags catching fire no matter what batting is put in them.
I myself would not put any type of fabric bowl or bag or warmer made with batting in the microwave. Nor would I give them to anyone else who really might not watch what they are doing - but that's just me.

Yes, I don't understand why the potato needs a bag either. I just put mine in with fork holes poked in them right on the glass dish and go from there. Is the bag supposed to cook the potato quicker or ??

Toss a piece of the batting in the microwave for 4 min. That is longer then then the bowls need to be in the mircowave to heat up food. If the batting burns then you'll know immediately. I did this with a lot of different battings. Wool was the best, never got warm but it is too fluffy for the bowls.
