You get much better definition with 1.5" strips. I have made quilts with strips between 1" cut and 2.5" cut and I far and away prefer the 1.5" strips -- you get good definition and don't go nuts with piecing forever like you do when you use the 1" cut (my twin quilt with 1" cut strips became a table topper -- I got bored )

Hi All, Thank you all for your answers. I decided to try one with the 1.5" strips..Ive decided to use these directions, http://www.quilt.com/Blocks/LogCabin/LogCabin.html And I made one today. I thought a log cabin would be fast easy.. geesh I got turned around and had to frog stitch a few times. but finally its done. I had to trim it to 12.5" but it turned out ok....Ive added a pic of the block but I am never sure if it will show up or not. I just wanted to thank you all for all the helpfull info.
Happy Quilting
Pat

Beautiful Pat. I have myself be researching about the log cabin and I like the look of the narrow strips. I am just finishing up the quilting on a Irish Double Chain, but my next project is going to be a Log Cabin Broken Star. Be sure to show us when done casue it looks like it will be wonderful.

you can use smaller strips, your cabins will have a different look, but you can use any size you want as low as 1 inch

I prefer 1 1/2" strips for LC. I think your sample block came out great. Keep going!

You will be fine with a smaller strip - it will be just as nice and oh by the way we have the same avatar

Actually I think you made a happy mistake. IMHO log cabins are best with narrower strips

Your already cut strips will be fine,. you may just have to make more blocks. Let us see the quilt when you finish, I'm sure it will be beautiful.
