I just don't seem to really get this quilting part. Can i do stitch in the ditch on my sewing machine and then handquilt a design? I am making a flannel throw with trees made from triangles put on raggy style. I wanted to do something around the trees. This quilt is going to my son's girlfriend's parents in East Asia. He is meeting them for the first time and wants a special gift. Thanks so much for any advice you can give.

yes you can. stitching in ditch will baste the quilt and make the hand quilting easier.

Stitching in the ditch before hand quilting is a wonderful plan! Yes, go for it!

Wish I'd thought of that. I was always afraid to mix the two. Oh well, live and learn. That's what's so great about this Board.
