My mom recently gave me a black feather weight. She was thrilled to pick it up at an estate sale for $20. She told the gentleman that it was worth a lot more and tried to offer him more for it, but he said no, that he had enjoyed hearing her stories about all of the sewing she has done and he wanted to give her that great deal. She used it for several years, even made bridesmaids dresses on it. She decided that she wanted me to have it now so she could enjoy watching me sew with it. Mom and I took it into the repair/service center last week for a checkup and they just called to say that it is ready to be picked up. I am really excited about it. It came with a table that it drops into somehow looks like a card table.

I will have to think of a name for her.

Bebe, that is wonderful! I researched several years ago because I wanted a featherweight made the year I was born, 1947. I ended up getting a beautiful machine from the grandaughter of the owner. She was the only owner of the machine. The grandaughter included pictures of the grandmother. It's very special. You can also get a 1/4 foot for your machine.

Congratulations on the FW!!!

I would say the mint green is my favorite color for a FW and then the white would run a close second. It wasn't until the end of the 221's era that Singer started introducing the different colors. Funny thing about the white FW's they were the cheapest ones you could buy at the time, the budget model. They were lacking all of the decals and only had Singer on the arm. But even back in the day they were sold new they were almost a 1/4 of the average annual salary.

Maybe thats why they are fetching good prices now because few were sold.

Billy

Oh while I am thinking about it all of the lowshank feet/accessories fit the 221K, they do not have to be strictly for the FW. The 15, 66, 99, 221, 222K are all the same with the exception of maybe the darning plate I will have to check on that. But I know that my even the feet from my 1910 27 will fit the 221.

The reason I am saying this is you do not have to spend the extra money for the exact same thing just because the seller says 221 or FW. And that will let you spend more money on the important things like FABRIC!!!

Never knew about featherweights until I started helping teach the Stack N Whack classes. Told hubbie I wanted one (remember that #) for my birthday. He found a beauty on e-bay, bought it. It arrived in perfect condition. Her name is Olivia :D. Then I told him about the white ones and the tan ones. Their names are Penelope and Roxie. He kept on buying...................... Fortunately in our area, these machines are in high demand. I resold all the others and exactly what we bought them for...had no desire to go into business. Now,back to yours, you will absolutely love how it sews. They are amazing. Would you believe they were first built to be toys -- so that little daughter could sew along with Mama as she sewed. Don't forget to oil it occasionally. Check your manual -- there are 32 spots. But it only takes a few minutes.

Just reread some of the other responses. As for the costs, Bebe, all of ours (nine, yes, nine) cost less than $300. All but one came in perfect working order. The one clinker had not been packed well and the motor mount arrived cracked. Sadly, it was a white one. Must say the e-bay experience on these machines was good. Every one of the machines sewed perfectly from the moment they were unpacked.

Wanna get sick?!?

Last month I was looking at CL here locally and there was a Singer listed for $65 but didn't say the model number. I opened the link to see a Centennial badged FW with a torn case but most of the accessories were there and showed pretty nice in the 2 photos the lady posted. I called and yep it was gone. :(

The deals are out there you just have to luck up and find them.

Always the optimist........

Billy
