I would appreciate your advice on which ONLINE sites are worth the subscription purchase.



We have a new Smart TV --what stations offer FREE quilt shows? What Paid stations are worth the investment?

I personally like National Quilter's Circle (https://www.nationalquilterscircle.com/). They do not offer many projects, but have great instruction about techniques for piecing, quilting, applique, and various artistic treatments. I think they usually offer the first year for $10-20. Some of their videos are free. You only pay for the premium content & downloads. Free videos are typically 5-8 minutes. Premium videos are typically 15-30 minutes. Downloads are usually 2-3 hours.

My local "Create" station offers the show "Quilting Arts". It's included in our basic cable package. The new season is starting in January.

I made the decision not to invest in any online subscriptions because between the free TV shows, YouTube, Pinterest, and great websites like Missouri Star Quilt Co, I didn't think an online site could offer much more.
My favorite free stations include PBS and Create Channel. Shows including Sewing With Nancy, Fons & Porter Love of Quilting, Quilting Arts & classic Quilt In A Day (Eleanor Burns) are all on several times per week.

I don't have any TV, but I have purchased Craftsy classes on specific quilting technique. BUT I pay once and can watch it forever.
There is just way to much free stuff to pay for almost anything.

I have several Craftsy classes worth many times the price (I only buy them on sale) and I indulge myself with my birthday gift to myself every year- "The Quilt Show" an online program starring Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims. Interviews, techniques, instructional videos, many many extras for members. Lots of people and information I don't see in any of the free options, and I enjoy it! Members have access to all the archived shows, can watch them as often as desired, as well as many other instructional videos not found elsewhere. There are free programs you can watch to See if it is something you would be interested in, cost is $42 per year. thequiltshow.com

I'm with bungalow I have decided there's to much free for me to spend money on the ones that charge, that being said I do on occasion buy a Craftsy class as well.

I think it depends on what your looking to do...

If just wanting to do traditional quilts, then I agree with the others that "paid for" websites are definitely not worth it due to so much free stuff available such as Bonnie Hunter or Crafty Gemini. Your better off spending your money on quality cutting and ironing tools, frequenting of local events, industry magazines, and one-off classes.

Although I might invest in online web access whilst looking to expand beyond the realm of traditional quilting, such as for art quilts, quilted apparel/accessories, fabric surface designs with dyes and inks, etc.

I, too, haven't felt the need to pay for videos with everything that is free. I have quilt subscribing to magazines too since there are so many free patterns. I print out the ones I want to use.

Thanks for the info. I'll look for "Create" and check out NQC and the QuiltShow.

I treat myself to magazines only if I find two or more patterns I like. It seems as if many of the magazines now are recycling techniques which is good for new quilters.

I love watching The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims. It is online and costs approximately $40 per year. For your money you get to see many great quilters show their quilts, demonstrate their techniques, and see them being interviewed. They have over ten years of programs that you can watch. They also have a great blog. Visit their site - thequiltshow.com. You will fall in love. Also visit quiltinaday.com for free programs. YouTube also has many quilt videos.
