Hello Tam Moo I mailed yours yesterday (the 28th), so you should have it the first of this coming week. I had to find another fabric and decide what I wanted for you all to do with it.

All of my F8th's have now been mailed as of yesterday.

I love the boom block - block. I guess that can happen. I have had so much fun looking at all the different fabrics and the suggestions everyone is giving that I haven't experienced that yet. thank goodness.
I am now working on selecting material and picking out the block pattern that I want for the squares that I have here to make. Yeah.

ok Daisy patience is one thing but starting after Halloween? how do you know you will get all your blocks done ON TIME? I hear that from others experience blocks still trickle in after the due date and that doesnt seem very fair to everyone who made an effort to get theirs done AND received by the final date. BTW I am not suggesting it was you but this concerns me that others think this is an optional date. I don't get it, everyone KNEW up front when our fabric was to be sent out.. and when it is to be home completed. So why is it ok to break the rules? they are not basic guidelines.. they were set out when everyone signed up. not a suprise thrown at you .. grrr... ok I vented. Chasing fabric seems a bit unfair on those who play by the rules.

On to happier thoughts, who has their halloween decorations out yet? I have a baby.. she is 21 and long moved from home and I am the bigger kid by far. I have a halloween tree with pumpkins and skeletons on it, a bunch of those mini pumpkins, glass pumpkins (gosh I love those) and well cats and halloween quilts and of course since I was putting all that up, up went the turkeys too one stop decorating lol.. it makes me happy. A lead in to my favorite time of the year.. when I get to hang all my decorations. Do you know now I forget here, one of our group members has 17 or 18 Christmas trees she puts up in all her rooms? OMG.. I want to hire her. I look at my measly four boxs and think.. ugh.. I think she has to have a storage unit just for those trees!

Elisabrat I for one dont think you were venting. I agree 100%. I have been in 4 swaps now and ALWAYS end up without someones F8 or without a finished block from at least one, sometimes more members. Its not fair to all the ones who try so hard to get their F8's out ON TIME and at least tell everyone the progress they are making. Im thinking this swap has been really one of the better ones for receiving F8's..I only hope its the same for finished blocks! Everyone understands life problems that happen but communication is the utmost importance I think... Im off my soap box. But I do agree with you. Im sure April watches it close and tries to keep everyone on track!
People may not remember what you looked like or what you said but they will always remember how you made them feel!

I have to say I agree also. When people send out fabric they certainly have a project in mind and want to get it done. I don't understand the part of signing up, you have blocks coming back to you and you see the results, and you haven't even started making them yet. I am sorry, I just don't understand. I like to see at least a few coming back, and I would feel VERY guilty receiving and not even opening an envelope and starting. Okay I'm done, had to kind of vent too! It's been 2 1/2 weeks since I got anything and a little antsy I guess. Sorry ladies been in way to many where you don't get them back and no F8 back either. I would just rather them send it back to me and say I don't want to make your block

i understand your frustration and agree with much of it, but sometimes there are legitimate reasons why things aren't done on time. i have always sent out the grown up blocks by the expiration date and have never missed anyone. sadly i have never rec'd back all my grown-ups/f8s, usually up to 7 have not bothered to do my blocks, so i just blew it off. i'm not going to show up at their homes demanding my fabric or their life. but you can rest assured you will get your grown up block from me, no matter what. some of us do depend on the final date as a real end time so we can prioritize and fit the blocks into our lives. i'm not criticizing or complaining, just trying to make my position clear. i still owe pinklotus an f8 and that is my fault. all other f8's went out on time.

I am thinking that maybe we should have two different kinds of boom blocks; the one on a really quick turn around, and the one where you can take your time. I hate the idea of waiting 4 months to see what I am going to make. But I totally understand the members who know they have 4 months and they take their time.

This is my third Boom and I have received all except one back in a previous boom, but I am very active in sending PM's to let someone know I haven't received their block, well until I feel like I am beating a dead horse.

I am in a different exchange with someone who owes me a block from Boom7. It really is hard to not go off on them, since I know for a fact that a lot of boomers have not received their block back from her.

It must be really hard on the organizers of the swaps to have to be the bad guy. Being the bad guy is no fun.

And although I have received a lot of blocks back with this boom I have hardly received any back on the fabric I was making for my Teacher friend who is going through Chemo. I have only received 3 of the Apples and Bees back. But seriously it is my own fault, I knew the deadline was Jan 1st, I just hope I get them all back by then.

I am not working on the blocks I received after the deadline for mailing out F8's just because I knew I would be on a crazy schedule right now. I have tried to start but I want to make sure I do a good job and I haven't got the time or the energy to have that happen. They will be done before I go to washington thou.
Give a smile away today, someone you meet might need one!

I can make you another bee block or maybe see if I have apples that would go with your theme. Just PM me.

If anyone wants their block in a hurry, I prioritize. If I received a grown up block from you, your grown up block from me becomes a priority and I hope to get it out asap. If you send me a grown up block and have not received one back yet please let me know and pm.

This swap has been a lot of fun and I really enjoy and appreciate all the beautiful blocks I received. I hope everyone is having fun and enjoying their new growing collection of blocks. I know I carefully read any enclosed notes and pick out a pattern and fabrics accordingly. I realize not every block might be what you wanted but it is not for lack of trying on my behalf and I think most other people do the same. I can see the care and attention people put into making the beautiful blocks I received. I also enjoy the many kind notes that are enclosed with the finnished blocks. Sometimes I am not articulate enough and I am not good in enclosing a little note but rest assured, I pack a quilty hug in with every block send out.

I have no idea how this topic made its way onto this thread. I have been in 7 of Aprils booms and occasionally someone does not meet expectations, and I emphasize "occasionally". April has always worked hard on making these swaps move along smoothly and when "something" did happen we were understanding, we forgave and we moved on. This is a friendly, family-like bunch of swappers and we try to be kind when other quilters have problems. I would really like to see it stay this way. I do not mean to offend......just mend.

I dont think anyone EVER was critizing April, in fact we all know that she has a hard job because she is the one that monitors who sends out and who doesnt and she has to make the calls or PMs asking why. Everyone understands that at times there are life problems that cause people to fall behind or not be able to finish and there isnt a single person in this swap, or any swap, that doesnt understand that. I think ladies are just trying to say that its very frustrating when you DONT hear from someone you have sent fabric to, expecting one back...everyone is trying hard Im sure and if you got all your blocks in other swaps you seem to be one of the very lucky ones!! Im missing probably 7 blocks out of 4 swaps and thats a little frustrating! I appreciate all the opinions, pro or con! And again.. A BIG THANKS to April for ALL she does...I wouldnt have her job!

STANDING UP AND TAKING THE BLAME not for what I said but for what happened because of it. I did not mean to start a rag tag which apparently I did. It is not and I repeat NOT Aprils fault it is however a slight by a few which has been ignored. By bringing it up I purely wanted to call attention to those who know they have not quiet followed the rules and the hurt it causes. This way perhaps it will remedy itself and then that part that makes it so fun can be truly enjoyed. I apologize to all of you sincerely. END OF DISCUSSION if you have an issue please PM me and I will gladly chat there (ok not gladly rather drop it).

OK ONTO HAPPY NEWS I received a block! tada! a block from Annaquilts. I have to say those blocks you make are indeed the best pressed in the country. I think that the time you spend making the backs lay so perfectly heck they are as good from the back as from the front. HOW DO YOU FIND THE TIME amazes me young lady. All those children AND you still send out repeatedly quality blocks. I wish I was even half that good. wowsa.

this is my second boom and I like having the long time to do the blocks. It has allowed me to plan when to do the blocks around my like and the various trips that I am making. For example: When I went to NH, I knew that I would be able to use my friends sewing machine so I took some blocks with me but come Nov. I am going to visit my daughter again in Melbourne, Australia and I won't be able to sew at all the month I am down there. So I had to schedule making my blocks in around those activities. I am sure that other people may have things going on in their lives too and have to schedule in when they can make their blocks. I am not worried at all and will just relax and enjoy the process. Today I am going to make 7 blocks. The 8th block I am not happy with the fabric I selected and the 9th one (from Linda58) I have to go buy some more material. A note to LInda......I loved the Christmas fabric and I am making two blocks for you. One is done but the other I did not have enough of the accent material and that is why I am going to go to the fabric store to match it up. And Tammy....I didn't have enough of the turquoise I wanted to use and went with another one and just hate it so I will also get some other material to go with yours.

I am going to visit my sister in the middle of the month in Las Vegas. She tells me that she has 3 boxes of material that she is going to give me. LOL I want to drive up today and get them. LOL. But I will wait. I can take the gobus for $75 dollars round trip where gas will cost me about 120. So will save the money and let someone else drive me.
I can take my Kindle and read both ways.

Well off to sew my blocks. Patterns are selected and they are all cut out. (can you hear my machine buzzing?)

Barb, If that Bus stops here, please pick me up! I love going to Vegas, but not for the reasons most go, my very best friend from forever lives there, and we have so much fun just sitting in her living room chatting and laughing! It is the best vacation for me. And they have a fantastic Run there, I love running when there is no humidity.

I am actually working on blocks today, got an early quick run in. Life is often times very ironic, I am going to Washington on October 12th, and my husband got a job that starts October 15th in OC Laguna Niguel, but his job will last 3 weeks so I will miss the first week being his helper, but when I get home I will head straight to his job site until two days before the Marathon, then zip up to Fresno to my Sons for 4 days... gotta lot of traveling on my plate in the next few weeks!

And just to clear the air, I love the Boom swaps, they are the best! April is amazing and we all love her. This has no reflection on her at all. The reality of it is we are all women, (ok mostly, I haven't swapped with a man yet) and we will never all have the same opinion, Which is precisly why I SWAP. I want the variety of your imput into my quilts. I have met some of the most amazing friends here. So forgive me if I have offended any one, I am at times a little to quick to say what frustrates me. But I am really over it!

As far as the Bee Fabric I sent out I think I am just totally amazed that all most all of the other fabric has come back, it is more of a surprise element that out of two groups of Women randomly set out fabric.

Then I got to thinking why. I am sure everyone has Christmas fabric in their stash but maybe not as many have something that matches the fabric with the apples and bees. So again forgive me for jumping so fast to open my mouth in a somewhat critical way, it was not intended to sound so whiney...

    Hello Everyone,
I hate to have to step in here, but feel that I must.

First and foremost-This swap was designed as a way to make new friends, learn new skills and stretch ourselves outside of our normal comfort zones. I would like to see it stay this way. Any problems that may arise or are going on, need to be addressed to me in private! Airing dirty laundry in public is not nice, not friendly and NOT ALLOWED.

Secondly- The only thing that can be stated as being against the rules at this point is the mailing of F8s. I ask that they be mailed within the first three weeks so we are well beyond that. I know some of you are bothered by how infrequently some swappers post & though I may ask and request people to give at least a weekly update, some people just can't do that. If you wish to ask someone if they have mailed their F8 that is fine but we have FOUR MONTHS to MAKE blocks. Just because you have not received blocks back yet does not mean you won't. Most people who join the boom swaps fulfill their commitments. Are some of them late? Absolutely but sadly we cannot predict what life is going to throw at us. I have had the gamut of things happen throughout my swaps to my swappers from loosing a loved one, to being extremely ill to loosing a job unexpectedly. Not everyone likes to air their personal lives. I merely tell you all what is going on with ME so that you know as a hostess I am not ignoring you I just have some medical issues I am dealing with. Luckily the emergency brain surgery on the 21st seems to have done something-I just hope it lasts.
Some people will never fulfill their commitment, sadly that is not something I or anyone else can control. It is a risk one takes when one joins a swap. You may send fabric out and never get anything back, you may send it out and get an F8 but never a completed block, you may send fabric out and have a beautiful and perfect swapping experience, we never really now. But what I do know is for the most part the Boom swaps have become a repeat swap for many, many people and they are all good people who honor their commitments. I try very hard to weed out the people who join and then do not uphold their end of the swap but once in awhile, yes one will slip by me and end up in another swap when perhaps they shouldn't have. I am human and yup I do make mistakes.

C- (I'm not a fan of the number 3 so I use C ) I hope we can all get back to our regular program of enjoying matching colors, picking out blocks and working at a pace that is comfortable for us. We all work on a different pace, and one of the reasons so many enjoy the Boom swap is because it does give you a longer turn around time to do different blocks in different color schemes.

Any more issues, concerns, hurt feelings, upsetness or just plain venting, please bring them to me Let's keep this a FRIENDSHIP swap.

    Huge Hugs
    April

Well said, April! We come from all different circumstances and yet we share a love of sewing and fondling fabrics. This is my first boom swap, and I approached it by using the same pattern, and adapting it to the fabrics received, which eliminated the pattern decisions. Some of you have individually picked patterns to compliment each fabric, which is wonderous to me, and must take a LOT of time and effort. I challenged myself to use only my stash, but some of you are making separate LQS trips to match FQ's - again, my admiration is boundless. I am retired, some of you are juggling jobs and travel. My kids are all on their own (thank goodness!), some of you are raising kids, grandchildren, canning and home schooling. My hat is off to you, and my prayers with you. Heck, I feel guilty and I think I should do some of YOUR blocks for you to send out. So send them over and I won't tell a soul..... (insert a group hug here)
May your blessings be many, your troubles few and your fabric stash endless!

I received a beautiful block from nanakathy55 today in the mail. You did an awesome job on matching the colors of those peppers and it will make a very nice addition to my placemats. Thank you so much.Name: DSCF0874.JPG
