CHILDREN’S DOLL QUILT SWAP
For this fun exchange, children will be paired up and exchange doll quilts with an adult partner from the board. This can be your own child, grandchild, godchild, niece/nephew, friend, neighbor, student or whoever you want to have participate! It is assumed that all the children are at a beginner level and should only participate if they are happy to accept a novice level doll quilt! The feedback I have received on this swap so far tells me that will not be a problem, but I just want to be sure that everyone is clear about this.
The participating children must do this block on their own. Their adult partner can advise them, but PLEASE let’s keep this as true as possible, and make it their own project. If we see a perfect quilt, it will not be in the spirit of this swap!! This adult partner must be the board contact and the children cannot post directly without their parent’s consent or direction. I believe the rules of the board prohibit anyone under 18, so those rules should be followed. If you want to post photos of your child and their work, just remember this is a public forum and use your best judgment!
DOLL QUILT SWAP GUIDELINES

SIZE: from 12”x12” to 24”x24”…any size or shape in between.

MATERIALS: natural fibers/cotton, wool, linen

EMBELLISHMENTS: if you want to use them, feel free…beads, rickrack, buttons, doilies, ribbon, lace…anything or nothing at all.

CONSTRUCTION: Pieced, appliquéd, wholecloth, or yo-yos; quilted by hand or machine; and bound.
The mailing deadline for the Doll Quilts is November 30, 2009. This basically gives the children two months to think of their ideas, shop, make their doll quilt and whatever other goodies they want to send to their partner. You can mail out anytime, but should do so no later than November 30th.
SIGN UPS: Please sign up by October 5, 2009. I will assign partners at the end of the day on the 5th.
COMMUNICATIONS: Once I assign partners, the adult partner of the child should contact by PM the other adult partner and make arrangements for exchanging addresses, preferences and whatever else
If you would like to sign up, send me a PM or reply to this thread. I will post participant lists as we get names. I want to be careful about naming children on the public forum so my plan is to name the board member, the age and gender of the child participating. Then, partners can exchange as much information as they feel comfortable.
Please let me know if you are willing to send internationally as we have several members outside of the US.

I forgot to add that we would be more than happy to send anywhere including outside of the US.
She use to be amazed that dad could send her packages from across the ocean when he was deployed. lol

3 kids,
K-M 15 female
D 13 male
T 12 female

And I will warn now that all my kids have sewn before, and K-M has even done some quilting on her own. So they will not be as novice as some of the younger kids.

Joey is so excited about this - he's busy with paper and crayons, working out possible designs! Might have to simplify a bit so he's actually capable of sewing them though! :D :D

I don't think the younger kids will mind getting quilts from older more competent ones, as long as the reverse is also the case. :D
