Wow Reba! That detail is awesome.

I received petthefabric's quilt today.

I did get some sewing done for the borders on Reba's quilt. Needed one last purple and actually found the same fabric in my stash that was used in the center block!! I was pretty excited about that.

I discovered the apliquick tools and am addicted, so I found an image, enlarged it, put it on my Cutterpillar light mat, traced it onto the fusible interfacing, glue baste turned the 1/4-1/8” edges with the apliquick turning rod thingy (so wonderful), and zigzag stitched the edges down with matching thread to the background. But since thistles are the prickliest plant ever, that simply wasn’t enough. So I “thread painted” (fancy pantsy quilter-speak for machine darning) using coordinating thread all over to mimic the prickly bits. It took quite a while and I used more than one color thread, but it looks 1000% better than the appliqué alone. Waaa-laaaaa. Hugs!

Reba - very nice! We are ending up with several non-traditional quilts and that is really neat.

I bought the apliquick tools but have not used them much so far. I've got the pattern for a sampler that has some simpler applique blocks and hope that will motivate me to practice with them. The tools are spendy, and I'd messed around with a few options to see how that would work and finally broke down and bought the tools.

Tell us more about this apliquick tool. Who makes them? Are there YouTube demonstrations? Never heard of them. I’m really curious.

This is Macybaby's quilt. I thought it needed more gold and some quiet space. Now, I'm auditioning a second spacer, either green on the right or the same border as the inside on the left. The size of this border will be 5". What do you think?

Sorry for the hot spot. This isn't the best spot for pictures.

I have these rods, have tried them a couple of time but not really got on with them... I find just applique pins and needle turn is much easier and quicker, and I LOVE to applique... There are some Youtube videos about which I watched... They are rather expensive these rods, but most things are that are related to crafts, unfortunately...

Here is a sneak peak of what I'm working on for CarrieM group 2 center. I don't think I will have enough of the maroon fabric to do flying geese around the whole quilt, I'm still thinking about options.
