I am used to folding over a 2.5” strip and sewing both raw edges of strip to raw edge of back of quilt and then fold over to the front of the quilt.
This method uses a 2” strip then folds both sides of strip toward middle of strip (they nearly but not quite meet in the middle). Then one raw edge is sewn to the backside of the quilt then folded over to the front and hand stitched down. The binding has held up really well given the age and regular use it has experienced.

I usually like a healthy binding when doing a quilt, so I use 4" strips sewed together (mitred). Then fold wrong edges together & press. This 2" binding is machine stitched to back of quilt. then rolled to front & machine stitched with a decorative stitch. I like the finished look & especially for kids quilt that will get washed often, the binding stands up really well.

Received my runner from R-sea today. She chose to show the sunset colors in Western Australia and sent me her local newspaper, a memory book for photo's and a couple of FQ's. I love the print in the stripe fabric, going to have to think of the good project for it. Thank you so much Rosalyn
