I wondering what method some of you use to make 9P. Do you like to use 2 1/2” squares, or small strips, about 10 - 12”, or maybe long WOF strips? Today I’ve been cutting 6 1/2” strips for upcoming donation projects so I have many extra little pieces which I’m cutting into 2 1/2” squares.

Hi D. I like to make mine from strips about 21/22inches long. I join the long strips and then subcut into the proper length afterwards. If I plan it right, I can make 8 out of one fat quarter and part of another I have a system that works great for me that allows for quick sewing and good accuracy. I do not like to make them out of squares as I find strips more stable and easier to handle.

I also make mine out of strips but I use regular 1/4 yards and cut 3 strips of one fabric and 2 strips of the second fabric.

Janice and Terriamn, thanks for the input. I’ve spent a few days cutting down my scraps and working with small strips and now little squares. I’ll be ready to hit my stash when I get home for some yardage.

D, I forgot to say I always have a couple of strips leftover and I either cut them up for the Candy swap I'm in or for other projects that call for scraps.

D.Henson, I've been working from my scraps so I have sewn some 2.5" squares together. I prefer to use short strips, tho. Maybe 11" long... My scraps are all shapes and sizes, so sometimes I can only get one or two of a colorway, sometimes 5 or 6. Have used up a lot of scraps, but there are always more!

If I was cutting from yardage, I would need 5 22" strips of one fabric, and 4 22" of another, to make 8 9Ps.

D.Henson, I do the same as terriamn, using WOF. I think it gives a consistent result when using strips.
Janice, pretty blocks!
Wow, look at that long list of swappers!!!!!

Love that Floribunda quilt!
I would enjoy doing the nine patches like this for the next swap. That would give our nine patch blocks quilts a whole new look.
