I came back to edit my post but too much time had elapsed. Here are two pics to illustrate with my favourite mid-afternoon snack on them. The blue is 7 x 9" and the black/green 6 x 8". Either work well. BTW, these are practice FMQ squares I cut up to make mug rugs from, NOT what I will be doing on this swap.

This is not a mug rug, but perhaps something to get the "juices flowing". I was thinking about doing something like this using 1.5" strips and a single red flower in the center for a friend who likes b/w and red together.

Im waiting for my partner to post. I want her to be surprised and if she can't post then I will so all of you can see what I sent. I mailed Saturday so she should receive mid week, going way east of me.

I originally made mine smaller than the required size and sure have stressed out getting them the right size. Wish I had known. But well....I am into making several different mugrugs and will choose the one I like the best to send. At least now I can make any others stress free without worrying about keeping to the 7X9" requirement. Whew!!!

Lynnie, you had all kinds of ideas, how about using one, but just substitute black and white for the colors?

Sandy, just for show and tell here are some snack mats I made for my grandkids a few years ago.

I made one 10"x 10" so I could the applique in.

After re-reading some of your post and measuring I find the 9X7 is a decent size to work with.

If you go and re-read the guide lines for this swap it stated:
. *SIZE: A minimum of approx. 9” x 7” in any fashion or shape.

As I said before…PLEASE do not stress over this. I am hoping for this swap to be challenging, fun & making new friends.

I love all the photos of the rugs so far..Too bad I cannot have them all

I'm thinking that I'm going to have to measure tlhe little spot at work where mine will live. I have room for 2 drinks there, but I believe a small plate wouldn't fit. I need a mini tape measure, lol. A larger one would work on my sewing table though. I can't remember what size I made the bunch at Christmas. I do still have a piece of flannel leftover where I cut too many batting pieces though. I like flannel for mug rug batting because it catches moisture, but dries well without smelling funny.

As for my partner's, I can't decide what to do, but I have a couple theme directions I'd like to go in.

Working on mine. I will probably make two - just to be sure she likes at least one of them. Almost done.

HA!! Maybe if my MR is sorta on the smaller size I won't be tempted to lay a snack next to my cup!! HA!! Maybe I'll need two of them, one for snacking and another for drinks only....!! Ha!

I found the 7"x9" to be huge. Half a placemat. Mine came out a little smaller than that. I made up for it by throwing in some FQs... Glad to see Nelda say that the exact size doesn't matter.
