Let me get into my Batik tote and see if I have one yard to do this with. It'll be my first even group project! I'm sooo excited!! I'll be back!!...

3699quilter 11-08-2010 07:24 AM

I know the theme is "Festive" but not being too familiar with batiks, what does that mean? I'm going to JoAnn's on my lunch hour today.

Momma_K 11-08-2010 07:28 AM

OK I'm IN!! Cool! I found a very nice cheery multicolor batik. Can be for children or adult! So, I'll press, cut and get in the mail today!!

Momma_K 11-08-2010 07:37 AM

I did it! I PM'ed and sending 2 packs. I'm so excited!

anything fun, colorful, bright and cheery

There seems to be some confusion on the 'sets'

ONE set is a yard of Batik cut into 12 squares 10x10 -make larger of you are unsure of your accuracy (these will be returned if they are washed, wonky, horribly off grain, or are not 10x10)

TWO ( 2) sets are:
ONE set is a yard of Batik cut into 12 squares 10x10
AND
ONE set is a yard of Batik cut into 12 squares 10x10 that is a different batik than the first one..

THREE (3) sets are:
ONE set is a yard of Batik cut into 12 squares 10x10
AND
ONE set is a yard of Batik cut into 12 squares 10x10 that is a different batik than the first one..
AND
ONE set is a yard of Batik cut into 12 squares 10x10 that is a different batik than the first two..

each addt'l set is another yard cut up that is not the same fabric you previously used.. Clear as mud everyone??

Momma_K 11-08-2010 08:01 AM

Glad you mentioned that!! Yeah I got it. Send 2 different set! Thanks, you must have read my PM! HA!

LOL.. I wasn't calling you out.. Never would of mentioned you by name but since you called you out. You are now fair game.. LOL... !!!!!!

luvTooQuilt 11-08-2010 08:48 AM

Remember everyone....

make the squares larger then 10x10 if you are unsure of your accuracy.. I will reject the WHOLE set if one has selvage, is wonky, not cut to 10x10 or washed..

Strict rule..

gardner 11-08-2010 10:17 AM

I received the batiks I bought for the swap in the mail today! Wow, that seller ships FAST! I'll start cutting it later this evening.

I snapped a quick photo if anyone wants a sneak peek ... or is it supposed to be a surprise?

Pics ok I guess, but for some it might ruin the surprise..
Whats the decision guys.. wanna see or not see??? hahah no matter to me, cuz I'm going to be the first one to see them all anyways.. lol

3699quilter 11-08-2010 06:17 PM

I bought 2 yards today at JoAnn's and used my coupons. The 3rd yard is coming from an Ebay auction I won for cheap.
Okay with me to show pictures.........

moonrise 11-08-2010 11:45 PM

My shoulders are going to tell me alllll about it tomorrow (owie owie owie), but I'm ready to mail whenever you want. Just need the address. I figured I'd better get it done while I had a few minutes free. :)

I cut them 10-1/4" just to be absolutely sure.

I'm not able to get my 6 sets into a flat rate mailer without overstuffing it to the point where I'm worried the mailer won't hold up. I'll just mail them in a tyvek mailer, and will send an extra one for the blocks to be mailed back in, along with the correct postage and a label. :)

Any more votes on whether to show pictures? :)

KarenR 11-09-2010 04:57 AM

What is a tyvek mailer?

It's a heavy duty, plastic outside, usually bubble wrap inside envelope. They are pretty cheap & lightweight.

luvTooQuilt 11-09-2010 09:26 AM

Great thanks

.. Also remember everyone Please do not be bashful on using packing tape... Id prefer you tape it to keep the package contained- it may have rough travels thru USPS..

Pics fine by me..

EC 11-09-2010 10:27 AM

If someone has already purchased their fabrics but hasn't had a chance to cut and post, then a pic of one of their fabrics shows up, should they feel obligated to go purchase more fabric...

OMGosh....I wouldn't think so AT ALL....I was just saying for those who haven't purchased yet...I'm SO SORRY if I gave that impression.

EC 11-09-2010 10:31 AM

You didn't give that impression. No offense taken. I haven't even signed up yet, I was just wondering.......

gardner 11-09-2010 10:59 AM

i changed my picture and yes, i did this one... can you tell i'm new??? :)

Quick note on these mailers (from experience): They work great but are NOT the Flat Rate so be careful when you add your postage.

yes Dragonfly Nana is correct you WILL BE PAYING PRIORITY rate NOT a FLAT rate..

as for pic you can post if you like. Does not mater to me.. I prefer surprises, but it really does not matter, and if there is one posted from another swapper that you have purchased already NO you DO NOT have to go and buy another fabric design.. You can still participate in the swap..

We are at 59 sets.. so if we do not make it to 72 those who sent in more than 5 sets will receive 1 duplicate sets..

KarenR 11-09-2010 12:29 PM

I'm still thinking of doing this.

Are you planning a I SPY for 6 1/2 inch blocks anytime soon?
I heard these fill up fast.

gardner 11-09-2010 12:30 PM

Please know that i can do another set or 2 if necessary to keep the multiples in 12. Just let me know... I can hardly wait!!!!

How about keeping it a surprise!! Thats part of the excitement!!

moonrise 11-09-2010 04:51 PM

Sorry to be slow responding about the tyvek mailers. We're on a 3rd shift schedule, and sleep days. :)

Anyway, yep, that's what the envelope looks like, and you can get them for free at http://www.usps.com . I'm not sure if there's enough time to order them for this swap (it usually takes about 2 weeks to get them), but your local postage may have some. :) They're made of a rip-proof plastic and are tough as nails. The ones I've gotten don't have a bubble lining.

The postage on the tyvek mailers goes by weight. They're not flat rate.

I'll wait about posting a photo of my fabric, unless someone twists my arm.
