2013 Quilt for Quilters Swap (Closed)

Welcome to the 2nd Quilt for Quilters Swap. This swap is for quilters who would like to swap a fully completed, lap-size quilt with another quilter.

Guidelines:

Sign up for this swap by January 15, 2013. Quilts must be finished and mailed by July 1, 2013.

Size: no smaller than 45" x 60"; no larger than 60" x 60". 100% cotton fabric.

See http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm for general swap rules.

I am required to insist that participants send me a monthly PM to verify that they are still active in this swap and are working on their promised project.

I am required to insist that participants notify me as soon as they have finished their quilt and are ready to mail it.

Once I have received notice that both partners are done and ready to mail, I will send both a PM to let them know it’s time to mail.

I am required to insist that all participants send me verification of shipment, to include tracking information.

Participants are required to ensure packages will not arrive “postage due.”

Any and all other fees, such as import duties, taxes, etc imposed by the recipient’s government are the sole responsibility of the recipient.

Absent legitimate and reported mitigating circumstances, participants who have not fulfilled their obligation by July 1, 2013 shall be deemed “late” and risk receiving Negative [Swap] Feedback.

Please keep in touch with your partner and me as required. Please let us know right away if something happens that will interfere with your ability to complete your project on time.

Swappers should treat each other as friends and focus on the fun. So … please be prepared to be flexible, patient and understanding if necessary and appropriate.
To participate, please PM me the following information. The best matches happen when you can be as specific as possible. I will then compare what people want to make and receive, and do my best to find compatible matches. Participants are encouraged to communicate any concerns about the swap or their partner selection to me at any time during the swap.

NOTE: Incomplete entries will not be accepted.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
1. Your name, mailing address, email and phone # ( I must have full contact information in order to effectively manage this swap. This information will not be shared beyond me and your swap partner without your permission)

1b. Are you willing to swap with someone outside the U.S.? (YES or NO)
We may have a few non-U.S. participants. Shipping is more expensive. I will only make US-nonUS matches with willing participants.

There are no requirements for type of quilting. Nor of skill level.

QuilterMomma 12-22-2012 07:07 AM

Thanks Jillaine, glad to see this swap up again. I enjoyed all the ones I did and received. They have been dispursed through out the house. I have to think on what I want to do and what I am looking for before I sign up. Will get it done before deadline. Working on the last 18 ufos right now so will pm you shortly.

nclauri 12-22-2012 11:11 AM

I definitely want in this time! I have been trying to decide what I wanted to work on in 2013 and this would be perfect. I followed the thread for the last exchange and wish I had participated then. I will send you an PM. Thanks for hosting.

TwinRiverFarm 12-22-2012 04:12 PM

Sending my PM , bring it on Jilliane! Shall I send you that box of Kleenex now or later on? Thank you, fearless leader, for taking this on again.
Elizabrat, you had better be on your best behavior. Oh wait a minute.. your best behavior is still hilarious! Glad to have you join this great swap.
QuilterMomma, you are amazing. Be careful or that UFO closet will fill up again!

IrelandDragonQuilting 12-22-2012 10:48 PM

OH boy! I so loved doing this the first go round. Going to have to put some hard thought to this one. I am glad to see you are doing it again, it is a awesome idea.

Elisabrat 12-23-2012 12:46 AM

Twinriver: I have NOOO idea what you could possibly be talking about.. behavior of course I will be on MY best behavior.. truly I will (grinning big time all the way). I am excited. I never make anything for myself as I am sure is the same with everyone who joins. I just ordered the batting for this so I will now sit here very angelic like and hold my hands together in a soft and gentle manor and tilt my head just slightly while I wait on go. uh huh.. yuppers that is me, Ms. Angel.

mindless 12-23-2012 04:05 PM

Thanks for hosting this again Jillaine!! I so much enjoyed the last one... I'll be PMing you right after the holidays!
Little Ms Elisabrat...your slip is showing! With a name like that, I'm gonna guess your halo could use a bit of polish.

jclinganrey 12-24-2012 10:57 AM

I'm interested in participating in this swap and have a quick question. May I send a UFO that I started for my partner to finish? Or is it up to my swap partner and I to decide what we want to do? That could potentially be a fabulous way to finish some of these projects. Just a thought - - - -

What a GREAT idea Jane! Fresh eyes! Fresh ideas! Maybe a whole new kinda swap.....

Elisabrat 12-25-2012 11:41 AM

oh no you guys dont! I dont have a ufo to finish :( I have quilt tops done unquilted but that is not a true ufo. Maybe I missed something we can state what type we like colors etc but we do not tell our partners what to make correct? let me know if this is misinterpreted.. or maybe the rules are different each round? its all good with me just curious.

btw came in to say Merry Christmas to everyone. I hope it was/is peaceful and everything you were hoping it would be.

Merry Christmas!

Lucky you....no ufos. I can fix that! I can send you a dozen or so.......;)

I love to start em, but when it comes to finishin em up.....not so much. hee hee so I really do have nearly 2 dozen projects going in various stages. Half are cut & ready to sew....just like the kits they sell, but 'home made'. each in a cute little box, complete with instructions & a pic of the desired result. hee hee

jillaine 12-25-2012 01:53 PM

If you want to use a UFO for your swap, describe it in the section "what I'd like to make". I will then seek a partner for you that wants what you're making. This is whAt I did last time and for the most part it worked really well.

Elisabrat 12-25-2012 04:13 PM

I am grand at finishing a top. Then.. I think about quilting it on my regular sewing machine and stuffing it in and out and think argh so I start another top. Three currently awaiting quilting in my ufo box. Other than that.. my boom blocks I received back but I was waiting for the rest to tumble in before I started sewing them into rows. I guess those are ufo's in their own way. If i half make a quilt and its in a box for a month its history. I cant wait to work with my partner on what they would like.

Nexxus831 12-26-2012 12:14 AM

I have never done this swap so this makes me very very very excited

Jane

While you may use a quilt top or other UFO as a starting point, what you send must be a fully completed quilt.

QuilterMomma 12-26-2012 07:59 AM

I used my ufos for a match up to a person last year. It worked real well, I got my UFOs done, the people who received them were thrilled with them and received back what I wanted. Jillaine is right, it works well that way and they were all completed. Please no more UFOs for me. I am finally getting mine done. I have 104 completed 100%, 10 tops done and waiting for quilting, and six more to get tops done for quilting and binding. So this coming year for this swap, I get to start fresh. That is why I am thinking so hard on what I want to do for this one. I may have to offer up a scrap quilt because I have so many of those and would like to get them used up. So who is wanting a special scrap quilt?

roseirish48 12-26-2012 07:04 PM

i love scrap quilts--will take them anytime--or any other types too. I think I might join this one.

IrelandDragonQuilting 12-26-2012 07:17 PM

Scrappy quilts are awesome!

QuilterMomma 12-27-2012 08:12 AM

So there is a possible match up between us roseirish48. This could be more fun than we know.

QuilterMomma 12-27-2012 08:13 AM

So you are saying I better decide what kind of quilt I want to have so jillaine can match me up with you girls?

jillaine 12-27-2012 08:38 AM

FYI, I'm up in snowy New Hampshire with the in-laws. Will start matchmaking after the new year. (Or I may wait until 1/15)

QuilterMomma 12-27-2012 09:45 AM

Sure you will, just making sure that what I have will be received by someone who wants. You have fun in that snowy weather and keep it there, you are blowing it my way and I do not like it.

jclinganrey 12-27-2012 10:53 AM

Please let me clarify: what I meant was, if agreed with my swap buddie, that I would send a partially started project/UFO for her to finish and I would make whatever she requests. Could be one of her UFO's - - - and it would be a completely finished quilt.

I'm just thinking that many times, when someone else sees a project for the first time, they see it with a 'fresh set of eyes' and different enthusiasm. Also, knowing that they're making it (or finishing it) for their swap buddy and that there is a deadline will make it almost certain that it will be finished. A bonus would be that I would (obviously) gladly send what I've started, so less fabric outlay for my swap buddy. There would also be plenty of communication between swap buddies.

Jane

QuilterMomma 12-27-2012 11:50 AM

Got it, I could do that since I am on a roll with ufos. If I get your name. No worries here. Yep, definitely less fabric layout for the swap buddy. That fits my budget since Christmas.

Bettypauze 12-27-2012 01:11 PM

New to this group, after making 8 quilts and 22 Christmas runners and 2 table cloths as Christmas gifts I'm ready for a new challenge.

Am Canadian but in USA at least once a month so posting shouldn't be a problem..as for mailing my quilt I have a friend in Buffalo that it can be mailed to as to not have the increased postage.

Now all I need to know is how one sends a PM?

jillaine 12-27-2012 01:37 PM

first highlight the text in my first post and select COPY from your Edit menu (or ctrl-C). Then click on my name. You'll be taken to my profile page. An option there is Send Private Message. In the message window/box, PASTE the text, then edit it with your answers. Looking forward to receiving them.

nclauri 12-27-2012 02:34 PM

Jillaine - I sent you a PM a few days ago - do you respond to let us know you received it? I haven't heard anything. Just want to make sure I am on your swap list. Thanks.

jillaine 12-27-2012 03:41 PM

Mmm. what happened to my response. I"m on vacation; will respond to PMs about the swap after I get back-- i.e., after the new year.

BTW, I'm capping it at 20 participants this time. Last time there were 60!!! (or something like that).

Elisabrat 12-27-2012 06:26 PM

Phew well glad I signed up early! I thought about it and well I have a small quilt top that needs extending to make a 60x80 but its only like 20" top and bottom combined.. so that would be a challenge big time as I am stumped. Its a basic 5" charm quilt but I thought pretty quilting would make it special. dont croak everyone. its Christmas fabric. nice ..masculine tones? burgandy, forest, grey.. that is the one UFO that needs .. something other than what I did. Its a quilt top with special meaning to me even if its simple. so I was hoping for a fall quilt of sorts but this would be a great other idea if your good at maybe a special border...oh the mind of mine keeps running lol wonder if I can catch up? and your right sometimes a new set of eyes is a good thing. Happy to work with your project so long as its not paper pieced then I can not help you.

Nexxus831 12-27-2012 07:32 PM

I sent you in my PM so hope you received it

lovngrandma 12-27-2012 08:52 PM

jillaine 12-28-2012 04:11 AM

Here's who I have PMs from. I haven't yet completed a review of all of these applications, so your name on this list does not yet confirm you're in. But assuming for the time being that these are complete, we've got room for 12 more.

Elisabrat wrote: "I have a small quilt top that needs extending to make a 60x80"

Reminder: for this swap, the requirement is for the finished quilt to be no less than 45x60 and no larger than 60x60.

lovngrandma 12-28-2012 07:08 AM

mine will be the smaller of them, , the 45 by 60 as I have limited space, and i for myself do alot of hand quilting, but i did some cool machine quiting for Christmas, and am anxious to do more, really looking forward to doing this swap.

Tam...Moo 12-28-2012 08:30 AM

Really thinking about signing up I received the most beautiful quilt from quiltermomma last time....the quilt she made me was so amazing....i will treasure it always.

QuilterMomma 12-28-2012 09:30 AM

Thank you Tam moo. I am grateful right now that you are giving me a bit more time to finish my DQ for you. I think I am high enough in that tree so if I do fall, won't be very far. LOL

Well I better get busyon this if I am going to join in the fun. Oh what to do what to do.
