curiosity killed the cat but i am an old cat lady and wouldnt needlessly or intentionally hurt a furbaby especially one with claws that could retaliate. why do you think my Truffles (my avatar) can get me out of bed at 5:30 am for early(very early) breakfast?
i am slowly working on Mumukate's quilt--4 blocks down and 5 to go. It is/has been fun redrafting patterns to fit the blocks---and then totally changing some of the elements to fit my speculations of what the block should look like. Although I have posted pics of the blocks I have completed, the colors are so muted, it is hard to get a real good look at them, so she will be surprised with the final product ( and if turns out the way I am picturing it in my mind, so will I)!

Libby,

Checking in also. I nailed down the pattern and fabric. I am going with a solid black and batiks. When I get a block sewn together I will take a picture and post here for all to see. I have had a very stressful week and half here at home so the delay is perfectly ok with me. Sigh I am off to bed now. Have a great week.

Hi everyone, working on my partners quilt has been a slow process. I've not worked on it for a couple of days cause I was getting frustrated with one block. So I took the weekend off, went to some parades, did some yard work and now back on it. Enjoyed seeing and listening to all on this thread about their progress. It will be fun when we all share our gifts.

Short an Sweet 02-25-2014 03:02 AM

I am going to start on mine this weekend and do some trial blocks to decide on pattern and fabric. So I will be making 2 blocks that make 4 blocks, I will only be able to show parts because she wants to be surprised on the pattern

Thank you, SO much Yosamitesa! So relieved you think it will be okay. Our quilt guild is having a "Sew-cial" (aka quilt camp) at the end of March. Hopefully, I will finish it in those 2 days - 10 to 12 hours of quilting each day=HEAVEN!!! Can't wait!!!

ArizonaKAT 02-26-2014 11:31 AM

PINK! I see PINK!

Lol!!! I can take that out if you want...won't hurt my feelings at all! :p

jaba 02-26-2014 06:06 PM

Beautiful "samples" being shown, love a bunch of them. I'm thinking with all the colors being shown, Dabbler has been very easy on me. She wanted a red and white quilt so I just had to do a pattern and that was easy for me. Made a quilt for a lady and she loved it so just sort of duplicated it for dabbler. I still have to get it on the long arm and get it quilted, then it will be ready for me to hand bind the binding then tada!!!!done!! A ways to go....have to get it quilted first

CarolynMT 02-27-2014 06:40 PM

Just checking in, I havent worked on my project in awhile :( I spent the earlier part of this week in hospital due to severe asthma attack, sigh.....am still trying to get through a couple hours of sleep at a time, am very foggy most times :p figured it would be better not to monkey around with precision cuts/piecing when lacking oxygen to brain :p

ljdugas31 02-27-2014 08:31 PM

so sorry to hear your not well. I know how you feel I also have asthma it is not fun. I will say a prayer for you. This weather is not good for us!!! I am having surgery on my hand in april . So your quilt will be done by then so I can send it out on time. I really like how it is coming along.

CarolynMT 02-28-2014 06:56 AM

Thank you LJ :) I am camped out in the house, even turned up heat. I keep spiking a fever :( doctor said it was some flu like thingy and it should go away soon enough. The good note, I am now a smoke free home. I was amazed at how easy it is to quit smoking when you cant breathe :p I havent had a cig since sunday at 7am. And the only craving I have to want one is the "am sitting in my smoking spot, doing things I do when I smoke" habits, So I just snack on almonds.

And there is no rush :) we have plenty of time. I still have my portals quilt on my frame :p really need to get working on it, when I can stand again without falling over! I have all the parts in, the specialty stuff, the batting, etc. Only lack the backing and threads.....am still debating on what I want to do for them. I did decide on a name for this piece :)

it will be dubbed "A Queens Romance" :) and will definitely earn it's name. I am so happy that I can do this piece for you :) really brings me joy!

Ok, must go clean up breathing apparatus and turn washer on........

Yosamitesa 02-28-2014 07:57 AM

Oh my goodness. CarolynMT, get better!!! Will be keeping happy healing thoughts heading your way. :) Y'all are all making me jelous. I want to see these quilts!!! I guess I will have to be surprised with everyone else!!!

QuilterMomma 02-28-2014 02:13 PM

We could maybe send you a sneak peak via pm so you can see them. But you may only want all of them then.

Nexxus831 02-28-2014 06:19 PM

I hope you are ok with me posting this here Yosamitesa if not I will delete it and I mean not to offend anyone just trying to help a local board member whom I have come to love.
We celebrated when Elisabrat got the call that she was accepted onto the transplant list for a new kidney. While she focuses on staying healthy until that kidney comes, we have the opportunity to help remove a little bit of the stress from her back.

After her transplant, she will have to stay in the Denver area for at least 30 days for monitoring. Since she lives nowhere near Denver, it's highly probable that she'll be staying in a hotel and getting meals from restaurants, hotel restaurants, etc. Anyone who has taken a vacation out of town knows just how expensive that can be!

We are hoping to raise enough money to fully cover the hotel costs; if we reach that goal, we'll aim higher and try to guarantee that she won't have to worry about affording healthy and healing foods while she's away from home.

Wouldn't it be nice to send her off to Denver with the knowledge that the first few months with her new kidney will be free of financial worries? - See more at: http://www.youcaring.com/medical-fun....FmeFhZLS.dpuf

Thank you for doing this Nexxus831! I went to the Mid-Atlantic quilt festival yesterday, and after thinking about what I spent just for fun, this reminded me that my friends are worth more than another UFO in my closet!

Hi Melinda,
Here are choices for your quilt. Pic with just fabrics, (pic is terrible) but they are greens and yellows with black (not shown) and will follow the quilt pattern in the middle. I think it is called Monkey Bars. The other choice is a bold gold (again terrible pic) fabric with a jelly roll I have with earth tones to form the chainlinks. That pattern is called Engagement. Any preference?

jaba 03-01-2014 07:27 PM

Those fabrics are beautiful! I think either one would be great. Lucky partner you have

Nexxus831 03-01-2014 10:52 PM

Emc1118 I love them both and would be honored to have either one but I really love the top one. Great choices

Yummy fabrics. Especially the top pastels. Can't wait to see the finished quilt posted.

Here is a peek at quilt shortnsweet. Tell me if you want so I know what else I can do.

jaba 03-03-2014 08:30 PM

Have the top done now, just need to decide on the backing and then actually get it quilted.

dabbler312 03-03-2014 09:03 PM

I'm sewing blocks together - sew, trim, sew, trim - square down, add end pieces and square to 15-1/2"

Marking 120 bits for HST seemed to take forever - project is coming along nicely

Just put Mr. Beasley out and it's snowing once again - hmmmmm - March in like a lion hopefully out like a lamb.

jaba 03-04-2014 06:44 AM

That's a lot of HST miss dabbler! I bet it's going to be beautiful though. Weather not to bad here, cold but it didn't snow yesterday. Short lived I think, they are calling for it today.

Nice!
I'm working on a quilt for my wife with a very similar pattern. The biggest difference is I'm using a 9 patch where you have your red and white. I've been struggling with piecing the blocks to each other. Getting all the points lined up in the corners has been a nightmare. I think it might be a good idea to split my football shapes like yours are. That would make things a lot easier.
Rodney

dabbler312 03-04-2014 02:55 PM

What was I thinking - it must have been late when I typed that - sorry jaba - I meant it was marking for flying geese and not HST - each block has four flying geese units to make the points for the floating stars (30 blocks/8 points each = 240 patches) - that's what I get for staying up so late any more.

jaba 03-04-2014 04:22 PM

Too funny, I thought you changed the pattern. Now I'm wondering if you showed me one or if I was dreaming that you did?? Trust me it will be a surprise for sure. Been one of those surprise weeks I guess, hope it will work out. Assuming if it is suppose to it will.

Dragonfly Nana 03-04-2014 04:47 PM

Jan are you snitching some of Brat's meds? The could explain the "surprise" kind of week you're having. tee hee

roseirish48 03-04-2014 05:36 PM

got pattern block #5 drafted and had planned on doing today but didnt get that far. on schedule for tomorrow along with more of border on the applique quilt and hand quilting on a baby quilt i have on frame. things are progressing.

mumukate 03-05-2014 04:48 AM

I think I learn something every time I sit down to sew...I learned that I've been sewing too fast! I slowed my machine down to about half the speed it was and I find it's much easier to hold a 1/4" seam & locking seams is easier too. I sort of feel like "Ned in the first reader" (as a friend of mine says) but sewing at this pace is MUCH less stressful! LOL!

Elisabrat 03-05-2014 06:36 AM

My top is 4.5 inches from done! lol.. keep working at it one inch at a time.. did another round at 4.5 inches which in the end I really like so it was worth it. Now do I go 4.5 inches and call it a day or do I go larger which I think it needs for that grand finish? thinking.. larger so what to do what to do....

Yosamitesa 03-05-2014 02:49 PM

Glad to see the chatter and the group having fun!!! :) Dealing with a lot of personal issues with my family, so I may not be around this weekend and next weekend. If you need me, drop me a pm and I'll get back with you asap. :)

Don't forget...I will need status updates on or before 3/15. That is 10 days away!!! :)

roseirish48 03-05-2014 06:24 PM

got next block cut out and pinned together--will sew tomorrow. finished quilting the baby quilt i had on frame.
