It has and I'm sooo inspired! I have it laid out and I know what I want to do but have to finish my center first (this weekend). Hugs!!
|
I was interested but now's bad timing for me so I'm going to be lurking to see what you all do. I'm looking forward to seeing your creations. Enjoy!
|
I'll be working on my center this week. Had to finish another top, here it is without its last border, in time to meet my girlfriend from Tennessee. I just uploaded it to my album entitled to Lydia's quilt. Not sure how to insert it here, working on it...... Hugs all!

Mostly finished top, center next

Greetings all, this is the mostly finished top that took up this past weekend, my center will be next ;-) Apparently you cannot attach a photo to a quick reply, only a regular reply. Hugs all!
|
ok, I got the idea... and the date.

Yay... Jaba is another great quilter! These RRs are going to be gooooood.
Janice, maybe you can catch the next RR... December or so. THanks for letting me know my 'center' made it to you, Reba. Was getting worried. Can't wait to start! |

RR2 -- Group --- : )
Sewbizgirl... love your neighborhood. My center is also a Dresden and the neighborhood ideas is on my bucket list. Givio... it is so helpful to see pics of how you developed your center. Reminds me of a kaleidoscope. Maryb119... like your bold colors and I agree it reminds me of the now "vintage" game I am so glad to be in group 2 as I will be learning from group 1. Never done a medallion quilt but it's on my bucket list!! I'm going with a theme. First attempt was i n t e r e s t i n g (its the first pic). Second, is better but I feel the blue area is too plain. Any ideas?????? |
Bug - you could do something leafy or vine-y appliqued into the background
So happy to have 2 groups that I can stalk. can't wait to see everyone's progress! |
Thanks for your input on the yellow, I liked it but then was second guessing myself. I think I have a block picked out too. My week is turning out busier than I thought it would be, but maybe I'll get some sewing done...or at least iron my fabrics! :)
Bugaroo--love the bees. Those will be fun to work with. This is going to be so much fun!! |
Bug, the bee theme is so cute. I was going to suggest the same thing as LAF... maybe some leaves/vines coming from each corner? Perhaps some flower blossoms. You don't have a lot of room there. It's looking great, so far!
|
carriem, I agreed with the others that you should keep the yellow in your mix of colors. :-) Glad you seem to want to use it now.
Bugaroo, I'm enamored with your unusual Dresden in the first picture, I'd go with that in a heartbeat! |
This is going to be so fun! I have the other quilts from the RR's that I have done in the past and I love them. Thanks for letting me in the group traveling grandma, started on my center today. I like it so far but have certainly changed my mind before...we'll see tomorrow. I need this, quilting and sewing has been my salvation.
Looking forward to getting to know all of you better, some of you for awhile and others not yet but it will happen. Hi Cuppy, it's been awhile since we saw each other, that was such a fun day that all of us had, shopping and lunch. Any plans on being in Florida this next winter TG? would be nice to get together again. I'm so looking forward to getting a quilt and start pondering what to do, what to do.... |
Welcome jaba, I am so glad you will be able to do this.
Cuppy had to step down so we are back to 5. Bugaroo - I like the first one best. You can always add quilting around the edge later on. I think I have settled on a pattern - of course it is the fifth pattern i have settled on! |
What?! Cuppy is out? Why aren’t people using this thread to communicate things like this to the whole group? I made us this thread so everybody can stay in touch with everybody else without having to use the pm system. Please let’s use it and reserve pm for sensitive info, like mailing addresses and such.
Also, if “the group” doesn’t see you on this thread, some start to think you aren’t participating any longer. Let’s keep the chatter * Here*. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png Thank you very much. |
I have narrowed down my block and getting the pattern printed out now...love the quilterscache.com for projects like this. :) I haven't done much sewing other than what had to be done for several months, so glad to finally have something to be excited about in the quilt room!!
I look forward to getting to know everyone. :) A little about me... I have lived in Iowa all of my life. I've been married for over 23 yrs to my "high school sweetheart". We have three children (18, 20, and 22). Only the youngest is at home now...she is trying to finish getting her license to be an esthetician if the school would ever open again. She was supposed to start classes next week but they have moved it off again until July 6th. We'll see. In the meantime she is working full time. The other two are still living nearby for now...my son shoots archery nationally. He was in CA living at the Olympic Training Center before the virus stuff started and he got sent home. So far they have rescheduled outdoor tournaments to start in August (usually the 1st is in April). He has gone back to work for the contractor he had worked for for 4+yrs...started at 16 (benefit of being homeschooled!). Moved out last month. Our oldest daughter lives in a nearby city and has struggled a bit but trying to get her life in order now. I decided at 18 (right after we were married) that I wanted to learn to sew. I made clothing for the first few years for myself and our girls. My first quilt was in 2007 and I haven't turned back since...almost 80 quilts finished to date, not counting wallhangings, table runners, etc. Of course there are flimsies I need to get quilted one of these days and that number would jump up pretty quickly.https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png Like many of you I have a small sewing machine collection...my old machines are all Singers. I can't rattle off the models of each, but I have a treadle that was my great-grandma's, a machine that was my husband's grandma's, plus one in a cabinet (this one I got at a garage sale when I first started sewing for $25 and still works great) and another with a rounded top wooded case (this one needs some wiring done, but they all run if needed). My daily machine is a Janome 6600. Oh yeah and I got one this past fall that is in a desk type cabinet. It needs a bobbin case, but isn't locked up or anything... |

Me too, Mary, I'd like to do a RR again in December, :-) Maybe we can just keep this thread going! |
I was pretty sure I had the start of a nice medallion somewhere in my stash, I had started it and then changed directions so it got put in a tote and set aside.
I dug it out last night, and I think it's going to work well. It's only about 10" round so will have the fun of adding to make it bigger. . How much input are we expected to provide to those adding rounds to our centers? I'm already working on a medallion quilt that is predominantly red, so would like to ask that reds are used sparingly for this one. |
Macybaby, I don’t know how it’s “usually” done, but I wouldn’t mind if someone wanted to include a note to circulate with their quilt, with special preferences. Something like “don’t add too much red” or “keep to the theme of the center if possible.”
|
LeeAnn, I was downtown today so I mailed my center to you. It should be there Friday. I am excited to get started with this round robin.
Welcome aboard to all of you in the second group. I love seeing the creative things done on these rounds. |
Is there still room in the second group? I've been wanting to do another RR for years.
|
MonaG - yes since we had a drop out. PM me with your name, mailing address, phone# and email addy. I will let you know who to send to.
|
Well that was quick! here is our new lineup
RR#2 TG sends to Mona G Mona G sends to Carriem Carriem sends to Bugaroo Bugaroo sends to Macy Baby MacyBaby sends to jaba jaba sends to TG Our due dates are always the first of the months. Now back to my block!1 |
Welcome MonaG! Have fun making your rounds! Please post your progress and any news here in this thread. We all want to 'oooh' and 'ahhh' over what's being made.
|
Poking around on the board, I found a real treasure. Givio kept an album with all the quilts in a RR she ran about a year ago. In it you can see all the stages.
Spoiler alert: the finished quilt tops show up first in the album. https://www.quiltingboard.com/member...bums19669.html Enjoy! |
traveling grandma, TG, I have my center done! Finished it today so if you want me to send it on to you sooner let me know and I'll put it in the mail.
|
Mary and I are interested in continuing the thread over the winter with another RR after our current commitment is finished. So, as we go along with our two groups through the summer and fall of 2020, kept that in mind in case you would like to have another medallion top next summer. :-) Maybe we can revisit this idea in November.
I believe our mailing date for Group 1 is on the 15th of the month. TG says Group 2 is mailing on the 1st of the month. Does anyone want to revise, so we are all mailing at the same time? We don't need to have the same mailing time, but I thought it would be cozy. SBG, I've mailed my center to you today. I think we should be getting a picture pretty soon. :-) Who has a picture to share? |
2 Attachment(s)
Jaba - yes you may send it. That would help as I have my two teen grands visiting for two weeks in July.
But please post a picture for everyone to see and ooh and aahhh! I worked all day on mine and got it done. The picture is darker - the second picture shows the correct colors. I am sending along some of the outside fabric to incorporate if you want. Also have to make up a letter to go with it. It has been a long time since I was able to do a RR and this will be a stretch for me which I need! |
I think I've figured out what I'm doing for my center and started cutting.

Thanks for the blocks link and the link to prior RR... wonderful resources and so helpful seeing what others have done.
Travelinggram, wonderful blues and the center is cool. Also thanks for all the suggestions about my Dresden. We were driving (7 hours) and I thought I had it figured out. Then I went into Hobby Lobby to stretch my legs. Well I found this lovely bee that I just have to use. Now I am back to thinking again. We are staying out our daughters for the week. Back home Saturday and I'll start sewing again. |
Lovely blue star center, TG!
That brings me to the question... if someone uses all batiks in their center, do we need to use batiks for the rest of the rounds too? Or is is ok to mix in quilting cottons with batiks? Not sure about changing our mailing date... Wouldn't it be good to have one mailing on the first and the other group on the 15th? That way we spread out the show and tell all month long. What do the rest of you think? |

Sewbiz - I mix batik and quilting cotton together. IF someone only wanted batiks than that should be addressed and agreed upon by the group. At least that is my opinion. Doing other swaps we have always intermingled the cottons.
|
I mix fabrics so either is fine with me. I also like having 2 mailing dates... less time to wait for lovely pictures to appear through out the month.
|
My center has a mix of batik and cotton in it. I've always mixed them and never had a problem, sometimes those colors just work out that way.
For those that haven't been in an RR before...it's much easier if your center is divisible by an even or odd number. Example 18" center is divisible by 3 or 6, a 15" center is not. When you start adding the rounds it's much easier to figure out a pattern for each one that comes out even on the sides instead of an inch left. Seems like there is lots of odd shaped corner stones on those odd sized centers. Just a suggestion, learned from doing other RR's. I'll take a pic later and try to post, haven't had to much luck at posting pics after they changed the format on here. I'll add some extra focus fabric if anyone wants to use it and a little message. |
Thank you CarrieM for sharing about you!
In 2003 my DH and I moved into our 39' fifth wheel and became fulltime RVers. We sold our home located at the eastern end of Long Island NY, and have traveled the USA. When four of our grandchildren were born we were there for extended times to help. We have been able to travel to National Disasters and help via the American Red Cross. We have found we can do amazing jobs "for a season" and enjoy meeting all people. And we love meeting up with friends we have met on QB! What fun that has been! We purchased a double wide in Prescott Valley AZ along the way, although we do not stay very long and may leave for years at a time. Since the house has two bed and two baths, my 92 yo mother has come to live with us for half the year. This has cut down on our traveling but allowed me more time to quilt. I have been able to join the boomerang and birthday candy swaps for years on the road. That's it for now. |
Jaba - if you can't post a picture, I will take one and post when it gets here.
|
Thanks for the answers to my batik question. I mix batik and quilting cotton in my own quilts, too.
Looks like the consensus is to keep the mailing dates separate. The first of the month for group 2, and the 15th for group 1 (after this first mailing). For those who joined late, group 1 is mailing on the 22nd this month, to accommodate a member who has since dropped out. From July on, the date will be the 15th. I'm enjoying these bios! TG, it must be fun to travel all the time, or even half the year. Carrie, I remembered from the Pony Club that your son is a talented archer. My story: Married my hubby in '85. We both lived in Hawaii. We relocated to Mississippi shortly after, because that's where my parents were. We wanted grandparents for our kids, once they came along. We had a girl first, then two boys, all within 4 years! Mississippi is a great place to raise children. I homeschooled all 3 kids, with the exception of the 11th and 12th grade for our older son. He wanted to play baseball and had to be in public school to do so. All the kids live in Memphis TN with their spouses now. I have two beautiful granddaughters and with Memphis only 3 hours away, I am on the road a lot to see them! I have always been a seamstress... private work, then costuming for the local ballet, then alterations at a bridal shop. I found quilting when a friend was diagnosed with breast cancer and I wanted to make a chemo quilt for her. After that, I was hooked. Don't know how many quilts I've made... I'm semi-retired but still work 3 mornings a week at the local gym, teaching exercise classes (yoga, water aerobics, and Silver Sneakers). Hope more of you will post a short bio too! |
