April 2019 Mug Rug Swap (Easter or April Showers)

We will celebrate the month of April with you making a Mug Rug representing Easter or April Showers.

Please Check with your partner to see what they would prefer.

Partners will be assigned no later than 2 April 2019

Deadline to mail: 20 April 2019 (If you do Easter Please try to get it to your partner so they can enjoy it for Easter)

What is a mug rug? A mug rug is an item you use to place a cup of coffee, tea or soda on, along with a small snack plate/napkin beside it. It’s approximately 9”x8” or larger so both items will fit. Please do not make it smaller than 9”x 8” (unless your partner tells you specifically that she wants a smaller size), as that is quite small for both items as it is!


1. You will be assigned a partner. This is not a secret pal swap. Each partner will contact the other partner for addresses. You are encouraged to talk to each other and find out little things about them so you can make a special gift just for them, but you must stay in guidance of the theme. You can appliqué or paper-piece or just go with regular piecing? Will you make your mug rug rectangular, circular, square, hexagonal? How you choose to make your mug rug is up to you, but make it with love & pride!


2. The mug rug must be made with 100% quilter’s cotton, with a nice cotton batting in between to protect furniture from possible damage due to heat/cold. Use a binding method you are comfortable with, or practice & learn a new binding technique! Also, the mug rug must be quilted. Remember, this is a gift you are making for someone. Be proud of your work & do your best. And be kind about what you receive. If you have any issues, please work it out with your partner first, before contacting me; communication is key. This board is for all of us to make friends & have fun.


3. For this month’s swap, you must send your name, address, e-mail address and phone number to Armylady2012 by March 31st. Deadline to send out swaps is April 20[SUP]th[/SUP],( if you cannot meet this deadline date please do not sign up) & don’t forget to send Armylady2012 notice, with tracking number, that you have sent to your partner. Any delays in mailing must be shared with Armylady2012, prior to the deadline of April 20th. I want everyone to receive a partner’s trade. We should not have to request angels. Again, communication is important. You can be forgiven if something comes up & you notify your partner & me prior to the deadline. But if you don’t communicate & don’t send out a mug rug to your partner, you will be locked out of swapping with this group and negative feedback will insure other swap groups know you didn't send. Also, if your partner has not sent to you by the deadline & you have not heard from her, please let me know. I’m pretty easy-going about things, but there is rarely a good reason for non-communication. If your partner has not communicated with you at all, let me know ‘way before the deadline so we can possibly avoid a problem later.


4. Also, please let me know if you can mail internationally! This is important, as we have quite a few international swappers who want to join us, & I don’t want anybody to be left out. So if you can ship internationally — even just one time — that would make it more fun for our overseas & Canadian swappers!

5. You are free to include little gifts with your mug rug, handmade or store-bought; it’s up to you. It’s been discussed on a previous swap that if you talk with your partner, maybe you can agree on an extra item each — like a FQ. That would be between you & your partner. But you are only obligated to send a mug rug. Nothing else is required in this swap.

7. Please take a photo before you ship your package to your partner, just in case she cannot post a photo. We all love to see photos! But don’t post it until you know your partner has received your package & that she is unable to post a photo herself.


8. Be sure to label the outside of the package with the name of the swap & your swap name. Many people sign up for more than one swap & it can be confusing to the recipient in trying to figure out which swap it came from.


9. And most of all — just have fun!


Sign Up Today! Send Armylady2012 a PM with your name, address, e-mail address & phone number for emergency use only and let me know if you can send International. If you have a preference of what you receive, just communicate that with your partner. Names will be given out on April 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] , the latest. You are required by the board to send things you sign up for, or risk not having the ability to swap again in other swaps. Again, per board rules, anything about your partner or the item they send to you that does not please you is not to be posted on the board but sent in a PM to me, Armylady2012, or to your partner to sort out. It’s polite and it’s the right thing to do.

Good morning,

I just sent off my pm to Armylady. This looks like a fun little project. I love to create these little masterpieces small scale. Just letting whoever I get for a partner know, I'm up for anything. April Showers/Easter. It doesn't matter to me. I adore bunnies and flowers. :o And, the rain here in Florida is mostly warm and wet. Not too many places where you can get a steam bath or warm facial for free. :D Do you ladies usually send goodies along? Just asking as I haven't done a swap like this in a long time. I know that the only requirement is your cutie patootie mug rug. :) Which is also fine with me.

I will wait to start mine until I see weather my swapper celebrates the Christian Easter Holiday, Whimsical Easter Holiday or prefers a bit of rainy weather mug run. It's all good to me.

I have touched base with my partner Momof05kids. I am so excited. I get to do Easter! Whimsical Easter to boot. It doesn't get any better. I hope I can do it justice. Either way, it is going to be fun. I am already in research mode. I hope to pull fabrics tomorrow and get started.

Letsquilt, those are adorable mug rugs. I just love Sue enjoying the Spring rain.

Here's a sneak peak for my partner, Momof05kids. I had a couple of set backs. First I couldn't get my printer to work. But, I bought a pattern special for this month. DS fixed it for me. Then, I lost one of my beloved dogs Friday. And, tomorrow, I have to take my son's dog back to the vet tomorrow for a re-check, for the 3rd re-check. But, I should have plenty of time tomorrow afternoon to work on my mug rug. I'm really excited to play. It keeps my mind busy from my quiet house. Yes, the doggy I lost was the smallest and loudest in my pack.

Letsquilt, so glad you liked them, they were fun to make. I'm getting stuff packed to go back to Wyoming, hope to leave this weekend. I got my machines all cleaned, projects packed that need to go and now going through the rest of the house to clean etc..Not looking forward to that long drive, takes 3-4 days, but hopefully next year we'll fly back and forth.

I'm just checking in. My mug rug is almost finished. I want to try to have it ready to mail off tomorrow. I just have to tweak a couple of boo boo's I found. I am having to seriously restrain myself from adding "Lot's" of embellishments. I just keep reminding myself that this is a mug rug and should lay flat. :D I was planning no embellishments but, I ran into a teeny problem that looked awful appliqued down. So I did a little ripping and am going to add one tiny tiny tiny embellishment.

I removed one item from this photo and substituted a different color. And, I added in just one more fabric. I want this to be a surprise for my partner.

Photo has been taken. I am all packaged up and ready to take to the post office tomorrow. So, It should be there before Easter.

Ladies thank you for the updates I am almost finished I had to redo the binding so working on that, I have so much trouble with binding.

My package has left the building. It should arrive on Saturday if the mail runs true.

Partner, I am sorry your little package is taking so long to get to you. I tracked it this morning and it still says in transit. I will keep an eye on it.

Mine is probably sitting in Wyoming but I’ll get it next weekend when we get back home.

Momof05kids, I am so happy that you like your mug rug. It really was a joy to create this for you. Sometimes, the fabrics just tell you what to make. Your little hint to me makes me wonder how you decorated your "egg". Or maybe I am completely off base. lol, Certainly, it will be a nice little smile in the mail. Enjoy yours and, I hope your kiddo's are feeling better.
